    Happy Fishing Birthday to Tanner!
While plain old fishing in the sound with Captain Howard of Miss Judy Charters Tanner Todd Rincon, Georgia had a great catching day! Tanner was celebrating is 13th birthday by going and doing a little catching! As you can see from the photo above he did just that! Nice sharks Tanner! Tanner is now part of the elite catching team. It’s not every day that you catch two different species of sharks. He is holding a nice Atlantic sharpnose (right hand) and bonnet head.
    Sound Fishing
Well, I have got to be honest plain old bottom fishing in the sound has turned into an unbelievable catching opportunity! While using small pieces of shrimp and squid our customers have been catching everything from whiting to blue fish to summer trout to croaker to pig fish to puffer fish to trophy red fish to pompano to yellow tail to sharks of all sizes from small to man eaters to stingray small to barn door size!
Well, if you read the above you know the darn action in the sound has not only been great, it has been darn interesting! Getting to the sound in my boat takes about 30 minutes taking riding and anchoring into consideration. Now if you have a smaller fast boat, well, you do the math. The bottom line to this fishing report is there is lots of fun fishing better known in this case as catching to be had in the sound!

Happy Birthday Tanner! It was the big 13!
While doing a little sound fishing with Captain Ryan Howard of Miss Judy Charters Tanner Todd Rincon Ga holding a nice Atlantic sharpnose and Gideon Czajkowski Guyton Georgia holding a nice bonnet head had a fun reeling shark catching fest! Some sharks were legal to keep while others were not! What does this mean? Some of the sharks were just too darn big to keep! These two fish were the prefect size, were properly cleaned, once home were going to be cooked, and used in the makings of SHARK TACOS! Don’t tell Taco Bell they have some serious competition! Once again Happy Birthday Tanner!

While offshore fishing with Captain Judy onboard Miss Judy Too Mike Stretch Newnan, Georgia caught some really nice black sea bass. Alli DeYoung of Miss Judy Charters is assisting! This is a nice resident black sea bass! Also known as part of tonight’s dinner!
    Artificial Reef Report
Now I am not saying that there aren’t for sure any top water fish holding at the artificial reefs! I am reporting that I have not caught any and I am also reporting that I have not been fishing these areas very much! Why? The darn rough sea conditions just won’t allow it! But that is OK there is always another day! I did get to go this past week and I did catch some nice black sea bass, trigger fish, and of course genuine red snapper. The fact of the matter is my customers caught, fought, and release lots of genuine red snapper and they had a great time doing it!

    Savannah Snapper Banks
The bottom fishing is great, but there will be lots of moving in your future. One thing I can suggest is to go, find some live bottom, and do some drifting fishing. Why? Well, you will find some real nice bottom fishing spots just by drift over them. And if you put a live fish or rigged shinny ballyhoo out you most likely are going to catch some nice king mackerel! What now? Don’t forget you gaff, your dip net, and your camera!

    Gulf Stream

Thanks to Dr HOO HOO and his fishing team we do know for a fact that the black fin tuna have arrived! Where is the best place to look? South Ledge, Triple ledge, and Deli Ledge! Why? It seems that tuna know that where you got structure you got a target rich environment for a grand feeding opportunity! And that my friend is a two way street being a mouth full of sentence and a mouth full of catching opportunity! So therefore if you get some good weather “IT IS TIME TO GO!” Why? “NOW YOU KNOW!”

While offshore fishing with Captain Judy Zack Smith, Tyler Stretch, and Annie (all from Newnan, Georgia) had a bonus bottom fishing day! All fishermen have double hook ups! Zack has a genuine red snapper and a black sea bass. Tyler and Annie followed suite with some nice hooked up black sea bass! The bottom line all hooks available were hooked up! These fish were caught in about 85 feet of water while using small pieces of cut squid. It seemed the smaller the bait the larger the fish. Now doesn’t that sound crazy? Well, it is my opinion that sometimes when larger fish are in a feeding frenzy they tend to eat the small mouth full first and then move on! I call this feeding “Pilfering and moving on!”

And here’s is one of Van’s believe it or not great fishing stories!
On his last trip to Savannah onboard Miss Judy Too, while offshore fishing about 50 miles, Van encounters a 25 foot megalodon shark! He hooked up and a serious grueling fight lasted for about 2 hours. After wearing the shark down Van was able to get close enough to pull out a large single front tooth. At that time the shark immediately threw up a Civil War cannonball, which landed right in the Van hands! Van proved once again that you really never know what you might catch when you go fishing in the ocean! All in all it was a great trip to Savannah, Georgia!

What do a megalodon shark tooth and a cannonball have in common?
Adventurous nine year old Van Stretch Newnan, Georgia!

While inshore fishing with Captain Garrett Ross of Miss Judy Charters Manuel Fuentes Argentina and Serigo Dromi (black vest) savannah had a grand fish catching time. The buzz on the dock was Manuel, who is very much known for being a wonderful cooker of fish is definitely cooking dinner! And Serigo said that with a big smile of his face! I guess this mean the Manuel is great at catching and cooking! What is on the fish cleaning table and will eventually end up on the dinner plates? Red fish, red fish, red fish, and one blue fish!

    Inshore Fishing
The winds have been howling and the rains have been falling, but just like a train on the tracks that is hard to stop so is the fall soon to be winter time inshore bite. And of course sounding like another broken record, but the fact are the facts live shrimp is still the ticket to this ride! You can purchase your shrimp or you can catch your own! At this time if seems both situations are more so available than any other time of the year! (Don’t forget to put the cast net in your boat, because if the bait shop is out or closed you can still catch your own bait and fast too!)
As far as presentation, the sky is the limit and the decision can be made by you mostly and not so much the fish. Why? Because if you are where the fish are they are going to find your live shrimp bait offering. Now, I suggest traditional adjustable small floats as your main delivery method. Why? It is easy to adjust the depth fished, you can just let the current take your float, and they will most likely find the fish for you! When you see your float go under, reel set your hook, reel it in, and if it’s the fish you are looking for, then this is your spot to fish!

While inshore fishing with Captain Ryan Howard of Miss Judy Charters Gideon Czajkowski Guyton Georgia caught this nice soon to be released trophy red fish! It’s a nice one for sure; it put up a strong fight, and was released back to the wild!

While fishing in the sound with Captain Ryan Howard of Miss Judy Charters Bryan Czajkowski Guyton, Georgia caught this nice trophy red fish! Check out those shoulders on this fish! This fish was caught fought landed and released back to the wild!

Little Miss Judy’s Believe It or Not!

Can’t say for sure who exactly this is! Maybe the wicked witch from the north! Rumor has it that she made an illegal landing at Savannah Hilton Head Airport, left her broom, and everyone is looking for her! Since it is Halloween I made a copy of this picture, which I took of the one hanging in the Wilmington Island post office! If see her or know her possible whereabouts please contact the FBI!
    Halloween 1958 Style

My father always took me out for Halloween so that I could collect my annual brown bag of candy. I always dressed up and it was a lot of fun. I tried everything from homemade costumes to the store bought ones. They all seemed to do the trick. However there was this one particular store brought costume that I will never forget. My father saw a cat costume and he brought it home. I was about 7 years old at the time, so therefore dressing up like a cat wasn’t such a bad idea, at least until daddy made certain alterations to the costume. The tail of the cat costume simply just hung there. Daddy checked it out and found that he could stuff my tail with some of the white so-called cotton that he used for caulking repairs on his wooden boats. I didn’t care all I was thinking about was all of the candy that I was going to get and how much I could eat in one night. After stuffing the tail with the so-called cotton he created a big problem. The tail was too heavy so it just fell to the ground. Now I had a cattail that was 3 dimensional, but it wouldn’t stand on its own. I could tell that Daddy was in a mood or maybe he had a few cocktails. Now he broke out the fishing line. His plan was to tie one end to the tail and the other end to the back of my costume, which he did in a fast fashion. I now had me a state of the art moving cattail that actually swayed with my walk. (Remember the lion’s tail in the Wizard of Oz) I was ready to go “Trick a Treating” in my now daddy designer store bought costume.

Our first stop was great! I got lots of compliments on my costumes and plenty of candy. I really made a haul. Daddy even got a beverage to go. As the evening went on my brown bag got heavier. According to Daddy my “Trick a Treating” was just about over, which wasn’t good news, but heck I was a little tired from all of the walking with my tail swaying. We must have visited at least 10 houses. Our last stop had the noise of a barking dog in the background. I was a little afraid of dogs, due to the fact that one of our neighbor’s dog had bitten me once before. I approached the door with caution. The dog was really barking at this point. When the door opened I saw the dog, which didn’t appear to be that large, but it sure had a big mouth. Somehow after the owner told me that the dog didn’t bite it escaped heading right for me. (I’m sure I looked like a small deer in headlights!) Of course I did what any seven year old dressed like a cat would do I ran with tail swinging in tow. The dog lunged and became attached to my tail. This as you can imagine slowed me down a bit. I could see my father running toward me, but it seemed as though he was in slow motion. At this point the tail ripped off, but unfortunately the fishing line didn’t break. So now I had the latched dog in tow. Things couldn’t get much worst. I had dropped my brown bag and now had a dog attached to my tail. I finally met up with my father and he immediately picked me up leaving the small dog still hanging. The dog owner apologized as he removed the dog from my tail. The rest of the story is easily figured out, we went home. However the candy haul for this particular house was unbelievable. I guess the bottom line is that you pay for what you get. In this case a little entertainment goes a long way. The moral of this story is a simple one. “So-called cotton was made to stuff only into the cracks of wooden boats and fishing line is made for fishing not tail tying. Any alterations can certainly change the course of an evening.”

Breakfast of Champions! Captain Kathy is holding us her most special breakfast of all time, which after you read the story below, will better be known as her exotic foods!

No Tricks or No treats just some darn good exotic can goods!

Way back in the good old days while on the pickle isle in Lester Claxton’s Wilmington Island grocery store The Piggly Wiggly I was approached by an older women. She asked, “Are you Captain Sherman Helmey’s child?” I replied, “Yes!” And then she said, “I have a funny story to tell you! While I was taking my grand children Trick a Treating last night I stopped by your father’s house to let my grand’s knock on his door. Your father answered with a smile on his face. I could tell he was complimenting the children on their costumes. I watched as he carefully dropped candy in their bags. I heard them thank him and watched as they came down the steps with their heavy bags. Heck I thought, what did Captain Helmey give them? Must have been all of his candy? Well, as it turned out your father didn’t have any candy. Apparently he had eaten it or forgot to purchase it. However, my grandchildren did not walk away empty handed. As soon as they got back to the car they showed me their unusual haul while sporting big smiles. He had dropped 2 cans of Vienna sausage and sardines in each bag. Since the kids weren’t ever allowed to eat such stuff, this gift was as popular as the candy! Heck, one child remarked, its exotic food. Now, where in the world they got that word from I will never know! And I just wanted you to know that your father was a hit with my grandchildren!”

I am so happy that her grands got the good stuff, because I had already been told by another lady that her children had gotten a can of corn and stewed tomatoes. The fact of the matter is she was serving corn and tomatoes for dinner! Now you know for sure that Halloween wasn’t just about getting dressed up at my house it meant much much more! So therefore, if you run out of candy, just open up your kitchen cabinets, and pick out some exotic can goods! Because we already know from past experiences this can work to someone’s advantage! Happy Halloween!

    Thanks for reading!
    Captain Judy
