  • Savannah Fishing Report - GA

Ethan Long and very Big red fish!
Please meet 9 year old Ethan Long of Savannah, Georgia! He and his father Nathan Long chartered Captain Garrett Ross of Miss Judy Charters to do a little inshore fishing. Before departing Ethan told me he wanted to catch a big fish! Well, enough said, “Ethan did catch a big fish, which turned out to be bigger than him!” Congratulations on a catching job well done!

    Inshore Fishing Report
Well, it has happened it is officially water temperature dropping times! And what does this mean to the inshore fisherman? Well, let me tell you! It means the inshore bite is going to be more dependable! Why? Because all fish know possible cold water times are on the way and most all potential food sources are going to simply disappear from their feeding grounds. Now that you know the fish are going to be extra hungry it is time to find them! How the heck do you do that? I suggest fishing the same spots that you did last year at this time. And if you can’t remember where you fished at during this time last year now is the time to consider keeping a personal log book. Why? They are simply priceless! And you think you will remember every detail of every trip, well my friend you will not. For instance: If you had written down the location and particulars of your last fall/early winter bite you would know exactly what to do! Well, enough of this, if you didn’t, it is time to start “Logging In!”
The other information that would be helpful is bait used. Well, I can help you with that. The best bait to use at this time of the year and works most of the time is live shrimp! The best news is that if you want to catch them yourself, don’t forget your cast net. There are plenty of shrimp to catch and if throwing a net is not in your future stop by your local bait shop! Shrimp stay livelier in this temperature of water! Another live bait that works very good at this time of the year is small finger mullet. And you can catch these baits in the backs of small creeks or if you happen to see a small school of them have you cast net ready. You can mix finger mullet and live shrimp together in the same live well! However, I don’t suggest mixing mud minnows and shrimp in your live well! Believe it or not, but those “little muds” love shrimp and all that it implies!
I always get asked, “Where should I fish?” And I always try to be as helpful as I can. Thinking like a fish is going to be in your best interest! For instance: They feed where there is a food source just like you do. So I always suggest fishing around or over some sort of structure such as oysters, rocks, or docks! And there are a lot of these structures however; you must pick the areas that look fishy to you! So think like a fish!
Our inshore captains have been catching some really nice spotted sea trout, summer trout also known as weak fish, beautiful flounder, legal reds, and trophy reds! Your boat or ours! Please give us a call 912 897 4921 it is time to do some inshore fishing! And if nothing else, you just might learn a little extra something! I know I do! (Captain Judy) And if learning is not your deal and fishing with a little catching is our captains are up for that too! Heck, I even like to go! It is a lot of fun fishing with light tackle! The best, for me (Captain Judy) is watching the “sinking of the cork!”

While inshore fishing with Captain Garrett Ross of Miss Judy Charters Ethan long (9 years old) and his father Nathan (Savannah, Georgia) had a very very good fishing day! Ethan was the fish catching star for the day! He caught the biggest, the most, and smiled the best!

It has been a while sent I had a face to face for dear old Santa! I have say, “Seeing and talking to old Santa makes you feel good!” And since we were already talking I might have added my early Christmas list into the conversation! (Yep, I did!) Please meet Mr. and Mrs. Clause, which also go by Carol and Steve Kilmer straight from you know where. According to story told Santa is on vacation in Savannah, Georgia and they are having a blast! They just flew in from South California and after this stay; well it is back to the North Pole. According to Santa it is going to be a very busy holiday season!

Captain Frank Cullum of Miss Judy Charter took Please Carol and Steve Kilmer aka Mr. and Mrs. Clause to do a little inshore fishing! This is what they caught and they released the rest! Captain Frank cleaned the nice size spotted sea trout and they took them to the Flying Fish Bar and Grill! And guess what? The Flying Fish fried them up and served them family style!

    The real deal!
    Santa on vacation in Savannah
Who is this? I told you Santa Clause came to visit to do a little inshore fishing! Who showed Mr. and Mrs. Clause the way? Captain Frank Cullum inshore specialist Miss Judy Charters!

While inshore fishing with Captain Justin Rahn of Miss Judy Charters
Richard Hall visiting from Kentucky along with his wife Lesa had a pretty darn interesting fish day. As you can see Richard caught a very impressive looking flounder! And his wife kept calling is a grouper flounder! So therefore, this is from now on is a new inshore species! I don’t know about you, but I like the sound of grouper flounder!

While inshore fishing with Captain Justin Rahn of Miss Judy Charters Richard and Lesa Hall of Kentucky has a blast catching releasing and keeping a few! Where are these fish now? On the way back home to Kentucky! So what on the fish cleaning table? One grouper flounder (Lesa kept calling Richard’s flounder this) and five nice spotted sea trout! All fish were caught inshore while using live shrimp presented under small adjustable corks! And that my friend is a mouth full, but if you consider going with this style of fishing plan you just might have some pretty good catching in your future!

Captain Kathy Brown is holding up a nice gag that was caught during last year’s near shore grouper season!
    Offshore Fishing Report!
As know, especially if you are coastal fisherman, the offshore winds have not been our friend! It seems that having the ability to safely go fish offshore has not been in the cards. However, when we do get the chance here’s what been happening!

Christopher Miller Blue Ash, Ohio is holding up a nice offshore trophy red fish that he caught a couple of years ago while fishing during the fall/winter 2014 season! And Christopher and his father David will be here next week! And what are we going do? We are going to fishing! A lot!
Artificial Reefs in less than 50 feet of water
These areas have not been very good due to the fact that the pecking small black sea bass are still in charge. However, this past week proved to be interesting to say the least! Summer trout aka weak fish have arrived and this build up should be getting stronger! Please remember you can only keep one summer trout per person and they have to be 13 plus inches TL to keep! Large trophy red fish have arrived and so have the juvenile gags. Now keeping any caught red fish offshore is not legal so therefore catch and release only! But, I have to say, “Fighting a large trophy red fish in the ocean on light tackle is a whole lot of fun!” As far as the near shore artificial reef grouper season, it has started. Gags have to be 24 inches TL to keep!

Pick up a copy of the 2019 Georgia Sport Fishing Regulations booklet! It has lots of useful information and also the list of legal fish to keep! Also go to https://safmc.net/ and print out the federal regulations for offshore fish. Or I keep forgetting since I am from the oldest school ever; make sure you have all of this loaded into your phone!

A beautiful summer trout aka weak fish!
Artificial reefs in more than 50 feet of water!
It has started; we got a few keeper black sea bass, triggerfish, flounder, ocean perch, and etc! What does this mean, “It’s happening, fall has sprung!” To this date we have not caught any top water fish at any of the artificial reefs, but all of this could change today! I will keep you posted!

    Savannah Snapper Banks
It is the place to go! Why? The bottom fishing is good and the king mackerel top water bite is good! You notice I didn’t say “Great, but I wanted too!”

    Gulf Stream
We already know it is time to go! However, the perfect weather day only comes along every now and then! All I can say, “Be ready, go when you can, and please send us a fishing report!”

Little Miss Judy’s Believe It or Not!

Captain Helmey’s Youth in a bottle!
During the seventies in his early seventies my father got sick and was hospitalized for about two weeks. I watched as his hair color went from very dark to lighter and lighter! As it grew longer it seemed whiter and white! It was truly a snow white color. I almost didn’t recognize my own father. Heck, he looked years older than he really was! This is when I found out about my father’s “white hair keep away concoction.”
Apparently applying Grecian formula was his big secret to keeping his hair dark. And here’s the thing my father always had a butch hair cut, which means there wasn’t much hair to color any way. However, the difference from not much white hair to not much dark hair was astounding. As far as I was concerned I would keep his secret and he could use this stuff until the cows came home!
So I decided to ask my friend Captain Steve “Triple Trouble” Howell do a little web surfing and bring me up to speed in regards to Grecian Formula! He is very good at this searching thing! The new now more improved Grecian formula does not work at least not like the old formula which really did worked! And here’s why.....because the US food and drug administration deemed it necessary to require them to remove the so called harmful lead acetate as an ingredient in the Grecian formula!
But here’s the thing my father lived to a ripe old age of 93 year old. He was married eight times and divorced 7 times! My father drank a fifth of liquor almost every evening before he left the house! He sometime mixed his liquor with milk, because according to him, it made it a more healthy drink. He never started drinking before 5 PM. According to him if you do, you just might have a drinking problem. He smoked big King Edward Cigar, but never inhaled! My father danced like Fred Astaire in his side tied blue suede shoes! He always said “All women loved him whether they knew it or not!” According to my father he had a special magnetic form of CHARISMA! Believe me, from what I know; no one would argue this point, because it was oh so true! All this with the original Grecian Formula onboard four days a week! It seems there are a lot of people that have their own personal secrets remedies and ideas when it comes to holding onto their youth! What’s yours?
    Thanks for reading! Captain Judy
