While inshore fishing with Captain Garrett Ross of Miss Judy Charters Cheryl and Scott Stuntebeck

Minnesota caught some really nice fish. Cheryl is holding up her just caught soon to be released trophy red fish! Captain Garrett is assisting and is also approving!

Captain Matt Williams of Miss Judy Charters took Laura Brown Flowery Branch, Georgia on an afternoon inshore catching, keeping, and releasing kind of a fish day! Let me set the weather stage! It was a beautiful sunny day, but the winds were howling and it was a bit on the chilly side. However, Laura being a true sports person, that she is, was up for the chore of doing what had to be done to catch fish. As you can see from the fish lying on the cleaning table Laura did pretty darn good! According to fishing tail told Laura kept her slot limit of five and released ten other red fish of assorted sizes. As you will see there were some nice ones too!

While inshore fishing with Captain Matt Williams of Miss Judy Charters Robert Rice Savannah Georgia Gary and Pam Paulsen Locust Grove Georgia had a fun catching time. And let me tell you about the weather handed. It was 82 degrees and sunny meaning not normal conditions for a day in January! The group while using live shrimp as bait presented under traditional small adjustable corks caught some very nice spotted sea trout and slot red fish!

Please meet Tommy Swinford Savannah and his son Scott Swinford Atlanta both holding some nice just caught spotted sea trout! And of course, in the middle mostly the cause of it all is Captain Garrett Ross of Miss Judy Charters. Yep, it was one of fish day where you did not think the fish were going to bite, but they certainly did! For those that want to know...live shrimp is the bait to use when targeting the old spotted sea trout!

    Inshore Fishing Report!
The fish are still biting! Warmer temps than normal have kept the inshore bite pattern a little on the fall side instead of the winter side. What does this mean? Well two things..we haven’t had any really winter like temperatures. So therefore our fish such as spotted sea trout have not gone into the cold water hibernation mode. The second thing is we still have shrimp in holding patterns in both deep holes and coming out of the grass as the tide falls. However, as I am writing this the coldest air temps that we have had so far experience this year are prevailing. This week’s inshore fish bite for spotted sea trout could prove to very challenging!

While inshore catching with Captain Matt Williams of Miss Judy Charters Laura Brown Flowery Branch, Georgia caught they beautiful cold water trophy red fish!

While inshore fishing with Captain Garrett Ross of Miss Judy Charters Will Dillon age 6 of St Simons along with his this Isle of Hope grandparents Cornelia and Mike Dillon had a catching blast! Will is showing us what a fist full of red fish really looks like!

While inshore fishing with Captain Garrett Ross of Miss Judy Charters Will Dillon age 6 St Simons along with his Isle of Hope grandparents Cornelia and Mike Dillon caught some very nice fish. Or should I say, “Will did most of the catching!” His grandfather Mike is assisting his grandson Will by holding his just caught spotted sea trout! Yep, Will did quite a job of catching on this day. He caught red fish, spotted sea trout, and even a cat fish!

While inshore fishing with Captain Garrett Ross of Miss Judy Charters Mike Dillon Isle of Hope and his grandson Will Dillon age 6 of St Simons caught some really nice fish. Grand Pa is he holder of the fish, but Will was the catcher!

While inshore catching with Captain Matt Williams of Miss Judy Charters Laura Brown Flowery Branch caught another beautiful trophy red fish! As I reported earlier, Laura caught and kept her limit of slot red fish and released 10 other nice fish. This would be one of them! And I would like to say, “Nice certainly does properly describe this trophy red fish!”

    Here Kitty Kitty Kitty!
While inshore fishing with Captain Garrett Ross of Miss Judy Charters Will Dillon age 6 of St Simons along with his this Isle of Hope grandparents Cornelia and Mike Dillon had a catching blast! He is holding something you don’t see every day while fishing this area, it is a cat fish! The question now is Cat fish stew or not?

While inshore fishing with Captain Garrett Ross of Miss Judy Charters Scott Stuntebeck
Minnesota caught this nice slot red fish. Although he is only holding one fish there were many more caught fought released and kept!

While inshore fishing with Captain Garrett Ross of Miss Judy Charters Cheryl Stuntebeck
Minnesota caught this nice black drum! What did this fish eat? Cheryl was fishing on the bottom with a fresh dead shrimp!

Christopher Miller Blue Ash, Ohio and Alli “The Kid” DeYoung are both sporting a wonderful fishing catching smile! Yep, that is a nice cobia that Christopher caught while plain old bottom fishing at the artificial reefs!

While inshore fishing with Captain Garrett Ross of Miss Judy Charters Cheryl Stuntebeck
Minnesota caught this beautiful red fish. Check out this fish’s set and ½ of eyes! My father always told me that each spot on a red fish’s tail represents the number of times that they have avoided a direct hit! And who would be delivering that direct hit? Porpoises also known as dolphin! And for the much older generation aka “Flipper!”

6’7” and 5 red fish later time two!
While inshore fishing with Captain Kevin Rose of Miss Judy Charters Jim Stacy Atlanta had a catching blast! Stacy and Kevin caught their limit!

This is a purple back fiddler that is perfectly hooked up! It has an added piece, which is the large part of the male fiddler’s claw. The reason behind this extra bait is a simple one: Normally the old sheepshead does not make a turn back after it has taken your fiddler off the hook. Believe me; they do this so quick that sometimes you don’t feel a thing. This is one fish that is truly a serious bait stealer! With that being said, “This small added piece of claw adds just enough “turn about scent” to keep a sheepshead interested!”

    Where do I purchase fiddlers?
Now for those that can go offshore anytime of the week I suggest keeping an eye on the weather patterns and windy conditions. Because the sheepshead/black sea bass fishing at the artificial reefs is awesome! So this means it is time to go! For those that don’t know.. Purple back fiddlers are the best bait to use when targeting the old sheepshead! Where do you get them? Well you can catch your own. However, you had best know for sure where you can legally dig for them or not! Or you can give Captain Brad Steward “Stewart Outfitters” a call 912 656 1868..he sells them and if he doesn’t have them on hand you certainly can make an order!

    Offshore Sheepshead
I got to tell you these crazy weather fronts have been landing on the weekend for a few weeks now. As soon as they start moving more during the week we offshore fishermen will be able to make way on Saturday or Sunday! However, the last couple weekends the winds have blown and blown and blown! But then it is that time of the year!

Captain Kathy Brown of Miss Judy Charters is holding up a nice black sea bass! And what time is it? Black sea bass catching time!

You got to look if you want to hook!

Yep, when we get to go, I have found that this bite has been pretty darn good for sure! As I am forever reporting..you got to look if you want to hook! What does this mean? Black sea bass can be found at the artificial reefs located in more than 50 feet of water. However, they are not schooling everywhere and there might be some looking for fish in your future. Once you find a school of black fish they are usually very accommodating meaning they will eat just about anything you throw at them. I like using cut squid wings because it’s easy to cut up and hard for the fish to get off the hook. So this is bait that keeps a fish coming back for more. If you don’t hook it up on the first hit, well as long as the bait is still there more bites will follow! And sometimes just the smell of where the squid was hung on the hook will work! Sound crazy doesn’t it? You want prove? Take a two hook bottom rig and put squid on both hooks. Then before dropping to the bottom remove the squid from one hook. I can assure you that if you drop this rig into a school of Black Sea bass you are going to still hook up two fish. This little experiment proves just how powerful the smell of squid is to a fish!

Offshore fishing report from the other side of the world!
Captain Garrett Ross of Miss Judy Charter’s good friend, Chris Isbil, sent him these great fish pictures!

Please meet Chris Isbil who actually is living in Korea, but fishing out of Konawa, Japan. On his day off, Chris took a quick plane ride to Konawa, and jumped on a charter boat! He is standing in front of a tub full of juvenile yellow fin tuna! As you can see the fishing regulations in Konawa are quite different! (There aren’t any!) I simply love his shirt!

Nice Yellow Fin! Well, before you go getting excited, like I did, this fish was not caught in our waters. It was caught by Captain Garrett Ross of Miss Judy Charter’s good buddy Chris Isbil, which now lives in Korea. After taking a plane ride to Konawa Japan, he then chartered a boat, and this is the end results!

    On the freshwater side...we have

Captain Garrett Ross of Miss Judy Charters is with his good friend and my cousin (Captain Judy) Mickey Holbrook owner operator of MAD GILLZ Fishing Guide Service a call. (470 262 6035) (Mickey is a member on the gangster side of the family! And that is all I am going to say about that!)
Captain Garrett caught this nice striped bass while fishing with Mickey during the holidays! So what does this all mean to you? Well, if it’s freshwater fishing you desire give Mickey a call and if its saltwater fishing you wish give Miss Judy Charters a call! The bottom line is this: Fishing is darn good no matter what and you now got more options!

For those of you that want to do a little fresh water fishing I highly suggest giving Mickey Holbrook owner operator of MAD GILLZ Fishing Guide Service a call. (470 262 6035) There are two things that we know for a fact ...and what is that? Our new fresh water connection is Mickey Holbrook! And I approved this message!
Little Miss Judy’s Believe it or not!

    “Role Reversal”
During my father’s fishing time wooden lures were a hit. This was due to the fact that this was the only style that had been invented. They came in standard colors such as two-tone black/sliver and red/white. The standard one color lures came in basic black, green, red and blue. The two-tone lures that I mentioned weren’t first out on the market. They came out much later. My father always re painted his lures after they had been hit. My father had a theory about wooden lures and fish. Most fish are color coordinated to help camouflage them. For instance a fish is mostly dark on the topside and light colored on the underside. According to my father there was a good reason for the color scheme.

Fish that travel at all depths of the water column are two-toned. In other words when they are swimming up off the sea bottom any fish below would have trouble seeing them. The lighter underneath blends in with colors seen when looking up.
So with keeping my father’s logic in mine, he changed all two tone lures. All two tone lures that had dark on the top and light color on the bottom were changed immediately. He reversed the colors. He would put dark on the bottom and light on the top. This color change increased visibility of the bait. In other words any fish swimming under the lure would be able to see it when it looked. And that my fishing friend is just one of the interesting things that father thought of when it came to outsmarting a darn fish!

My daddy’s favorite of all times cobia catching lure! Better known as the Cisco Kid! He would cast it out in front of the cobia and work it erratically! Now if he happened to be smoking a big King Edward Cigar at the time, smoke rings would be swirling around his head! And he kind of acted a little like he was crazy! Now if you are a true fisherman you definitely understood the sentence you just read!
    Thanks for reading!
