Saugeye Diet
Caught a few keeper Sauger/Saugeye on the Ohio river last weekend. The one saugeye i caught had some stomach contents that stumped me. he had 7 or 8 what looked to be baby crawfish/shrimp in his stomach. they looked curled like shrimp but distinct eyes on top (like a crawfish/shrimp). they were very small no longer than than 1/4-1/2 inch. Does anyone have any info on what this guy had been eating? I was not smart enough to take pictures.
thanks,

I venture to say freshwater shrimp. We have them, and seam to be a little more prevalent now with water conditions for the most part better. Sturgeon are making there way back to. I have fished the river for probably 50 of my 56 years and caught my first one a couple of years ago. I think the zebra mussel has actually helped...and hurt. Chuck
