April and May are my best months for big G hawgs .... of course tax season prevents me from fishing much during the prime big fish months of February and March. The weather and water level has a big impact on how those Feb. and March fish bite for you though.
We have been going the last week of feb. and the first week of march. It has been cold, but we have done really good. Three years ago we fished in the snow and sleet and smoked them. 3,4,5, and a few 6+s Last year we had better weather and did not get one over 6.
ttwigg - What exactly do you mean by cold? I am from Indiana and looking to take a trip to Guntersville (my wifes got family down there we can stay with). I was wanting to hit the prespawn when it's too cold still to effectively fish up here to remedy some of the cabin fever I get. Around what water temps and air temps do you Crimson Tide fans see at mid to late February and the beginning of March? Would I be better targeting spots at the Coosa River Chain? Any suggestions?
We bring all our hunting clothes thats for sure. I'm a Hoosier also. The winter blahs is what gets us down there too. We caught fish in 75 degree sun with our shirts off and the next year we had bibs and rain gear over those.
