Not sure about Barren as I have never been on the lake but a great way to put meat in the freezer in the Summer months is limb lining for cats. Can set out 25 per person. I prefer live bluegill but there are a lot of things that will catch them. If there are 2 of you, 50 lines would keep you busy between checking lines, catching bait, and rebaiting in the evenings. Plus the bonus, you aren't out in the blazing sun all day. Run lines during the early morning and at night if you choose.
Use popeyes and wax worms to fish for bluegill. My brother just went last weekend fishing for bluegill and ended up catching numerous really nice sized catfish.
