Re: Battery or Charger-which is more important
Today I had a question about my two bank charger so I called the company that made it to ask their advise. During the conversation the tech support rep told me that they advise to keep the charger plugged in 24/7. He said it was better for the batteries and better for the charger. Said it would extend the life of both and ensure the best full charge.
Does anyone else do this? What are your thoughts?
It probably is good for the battery, probably not good for the charger and definitely not good for your electric bill.
Re: Battery or Charger-which is more important
The way he explained it, the charger would go into kind of a maintenance mode and it would be better for both charger and battery. Good point about the electric bill. I wonder how much it draws if it is only occasionally turning on to keep the battery at a maximum?

It goes into float mode after a while and does not draw very much current. It monitors the voltage on the batteries until they drop below a certain point and then it tops them back up. It is the best way to maintain your batteries. As for the brand batteries I have, I bought three new batteries this spring. They are SuperLex batteries and so far they have impressed me. Not to mention they were around $80 a piece which is way cheaper than any other battery I checked on.

Thanks. So it is not harder on the charger if kept plugged in all the time?

No. It is better on the batteries too. There are a lot of different schools of thought on this. Some guys will tell you that is not the best idea, but all of your manufacturers will tell you to keep it plugged in 24/7. That is what I have always done and I have not had any issues.

Just remember to check your water levels more often if you leave them plugged in all the time.
