Re: Planning a Fishing Trip
Yeah, it's interesting alright. My family and I were in Montana last year for a couple of weeks and we never saw darkness. I don't think there was darkness except for maybe about 4 hours each night.
Besides being interesting, I thought that it was fairly annoying and it made it hard to sleep...
Re: Planning a Fishing Trip
Grumpy, if you get time, there is an interesting place in the UP, you can see ghost lights at certain times of the year. We ice fished the UP one year, and were dazzeled by the nortern lights. Also dont forget our indian brothers, they have a couple of fantastic casinos up there, and the food is great and reasonable. Have a cold one for me. And DONT lip lift northern pike!
Re: Planning a Fishing Trip
Kygorski, I am originally from MI and have visited the UP several times but have never had the opportunity to see the Northern Lights. Now the Casinos, that is a different matter. Anyhow, we are going to fish, not sight see, and so far the weather forecasts are favorable so hoplefully we will spned most of our time on the water. I love catching Pike and all the other types that bite a hook up there.
I used to have a computer game for fishing and it would throw penalities at you for different things. One was: "You caught a Dogfish and lost five minutes while you replace your mangled lure." Later, when I went fishing in MI, I found out what a Dogfish was and understood about mangled lures. All the fish up there fight really hard but Dogfish, Drum and Eyes are especially fun to catch.

I envy you, maybe this fall I might get a chance to try view dessert, and the cisco chain, too old to work clark lale, no motors allowed when I was there last. Have a safe trip and may the good lord watch out for you guys
Re: Planning a Fishing Trip
Enjoy the trip up north. Typically go to Lake Paradise every couple years. The longer days make it easy to burn the candle at both ends - get up early for the morning small mouth bite, stay up late for the evening bite. Afternoon naps work wonders.
Good luck.
