I just checked on that and it is a program bug. I submitted it as such. It's a little confusing to some I am shure.
I have the linking function because from a moderators point of view we would have to check all links for porn and other stuff and that would be too time consuming.

Thanks, Peter. The new board is great.

If you are going to be that anal about what people post then why not use the option for mod review before a post is posted. The linking feature is a major stumbling block in forum/website activity. If you don't make it easy for the members to get around, they will in time quit trying to navigate. I understand that a few people may link to an offensive site from time to time. But with diligent members reporting such posts and the removal or suspension of posting priv's for those posters, things shouldn't get out of hand.
How many people do you think copy and paste a url to the address bar of links that Jim D. posts to new articles or pics on the main website. Very few I'm sure. Now they may eventually go there after reading the forums,if they don't forget. This convenience drives activity for the website, more activity means a better chance of increasing revenue. The more convenient you make the navigation the more apt people are going to use the full resources of this website and keep coming back.
You may have some points, I don't know. You sound like you have experience in this area.. if so I would like to talk to you.
I will say there is no way we are going to moderate hundreds of posts per day..it is just not possible. Most of us have jobs and other time consuming things to do. Plus moderating each post slows down the flow of information. I am open for ideas.

The moderation by post was a sarcastic example of over moderation.
I just feel that you can loosen the reigns a little with posting active links. The more things you can do to make things easier/faster for your web site users the more they are inclined to stick around. I believe allowing live links will not be a big concern, sure you'll have the odd troll posting a xxx site. But with even your small team of moderators it wouldn't last long. Then you take action and ban the user, suspend his posting privs or in some cases a private or public reprimand will suffice. IIRC the vb software has a report post option that users can report offensive material as well.
Most of my db experience is as a user but have been a moderator on a board and an owner of a small board as well. Most of my online time is spent on boards of various subjects with varied degrees of decorum. I've seen alot of them come and go and some grow beyond what one could imagine. Sometimes good forums die for strange reasons. I'll look around a little and tell you what I think.
Thanks. Stay in touch.
