Been pouring plastics for a number of years. As noted above, Lurecraft has a ton of molds in addition to plastisol, dyes, scents, and anything else that you would need. The stuff will smell when...
I got a cheaper Hummingbird FF for my kayak a number of years ago. Definitely helpful, even on smaller lakes. Helps me find structure that may not be visible at the surface. If I am trolling, helps...
Most of the water comes from stuff coming off the paddle, unless you do something really stupid and flip over. Have used both sit in and sit on top. When I finally bought one it was sit on top....
If you want to try them at night, look for bluff walls where the river channel comes in close to the bank. red fin, jointed thunder stick, sliver, and bucktails are the preferred lures. You want the...
Have not fished Cumberland in the last several years in December. In the past I did well throwing deep running plugs and bucktails at night. Red clay banks. Start towards the back of the creek and...
That is where I would start. Been a few years since I've trolled at Herrington. When I did, I started by the dam at first light and worked up stream from the dam. Watch your fish finder for bait...
Mostly fishing tailwater areas around knoxville for stripers. Bank fishing with a surf rod and slinging homemade wood plugs and soft plastics. Also fishing cherokee spring time for the night time...
Yeah, I know that guy. He is a bum. Hasn't trolled for stripers in years so he has been making other baits. I'll see if I can't give him a swift kick in the butt and get him to tie up a few....
bucktails are pretty easy to keep :p
Corinth lake, hour and a half or so before dark till an hour and a half or so after sun up. Zoom horny toad, texas rig, no weight. Throw it at the bank and fish it over the weeds. Usually twitching...
Same here. Different experiences with fishing I guess. Like mean morone, my cut bait fishing was typically a last resort. Though it was useful after being on the lake all night chasing stripers to...
Try several of each and determine from there what works better for you. If you have a lot of rapids, probably a sit in. Slower moving water, sit on. I have an Ocean Kayak Caper (sit on) that I've...
Like Mean Morone, I have mostly done it in cooler months: winter and early spring. Usually set out a spread of live and cut bait. Gizzard shad work well for cut bait. I use the whole shad. Egg sinker...
Second lurecraft. They have plenty of molds and other soft plastic bait making stuff. Might check out the molds they have already to get started, then work up to making your own molds. Even if using...
Agree with MHall on the clear water. Pretty much a finesse type bait. Definitely want to use them on lighter line. I use the same spinner rig that I would use for a fluke. You want to be able to make...
I'll make 2-3 casts with a topwater plug. If no interest, switch to a bucktail and vary the depth that I fish it. You can also throw a bucktail in the general area after the school goes down.
...
Definitely possible. Talked to a guide years ago who told me that he had times when only some guides in their group were catching fish. Fishing the same place, same depth, same baits. Only...
I used to use lead slab spoons and flutter jigs below markland dam. Hybrids hit those well as did catfish. I liked them at times due to the distance I could cast them. I would give them a shot.
A night that will live in Lake Cumberland fishing infamy :p Still get a chuckle out of that one when handing one of those jointed Beavers to a friend and relaying that story.
Agree that it would be dangerous to try and wade in water moving that speed. Fishing it, depends on your gear. I've fished tail waters on the Ohio and other rivers, plus numerous surf fishing spots...
Heck of a striper on a fly! Congrats.
Off topic posts were removed.
Running bucktail jigs or spoons off downriggers is another option for those who do not want to mess with bait.
I have used an ocean kayak caper model for years. Sit on top. They have both angler and regular models. If you can use basic tools, opt for the regular model and do your own mods (rod holders, depth...
Thanks for the well wishes!
Grandpappy Mark, gotta remember that one :p
Several times. 12 and 14 inch smallie on the same topwater bait. Both hit it about the same time. 8 and 10 pound stripers on an umbrella rig. Two 6 pound bluefish on a pencil popper in the surf. Had...
Unfortunately this thread is turning into nothing more than trolling and throwing personal insults. I am locking it.
Take a look at www.Mudhole.com Everything you need to start building your own rods. Even have some kits that have all the components to build a rod (you'll need a thread wrapper and rod turner too...
Sounds like a great trip. Hope you catch a bunch! Pictures when you return. That plug with the colorado blade on the back: wake it or walk it, or mix it up. Smallies love it :) The jointed plug too!
Moved to TN earlier this year. Trying to figure out Norris Stripers now. Hows things with you?
100% correct. I have seen it happen. Better to provide a general report (e.g., we caught fish using these lures and targeted riffle areas) than to provide specifics (e.g., park here, head this...
They are doing me that way down here too :p
Glad that I can provide you with a night's worth of entertainment :p:D
In my case, walleye hitting the plug, but not hooking up. A walleye hit is more of a sucking sound while a striper is a blow up. I have caught them in the past, though most often it is then hitting...
Yep, we tried parallel and perpendicular to the banks. Surface and subsurface plugs and bucktails. Some alewifes in, but not real heavy. Only heard two striper blow ups all night. Plenty of walleye...
Know what you mean! Fishincreek and I had to really chose our banks. Skipped over some past producing banks cause there was too much brush on them to fish. What do you think about the brush/trees...
I use snaps (no swivel) on most cranks, jerkbaits, and topwater baits. Don't use them much on jigs, spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, or soft plastics. Gives the plug more freedom of movement and easier to...
Haven't noticed that rod length is that important in a kayak. Yes, there may be times that you want to land a fish on one side of the boat. In that case, being able to reach your rod around the yak...
Have tried both types and prefer a sit on top. More room to store gear and easier to modify to how you want to fish it. Mostly fishing calmer water: lakes, slow moving creeks/rivers, and ocean bays...
So you'll be joining us on the dark side and melting lead instead of pouring plastics :)
Other option is to make your own:

6 inch stocker trout
As Duayne noted, the mold is from Do It molds (Shad Head Jig - SHB-5-A). I modified it to accept the spinner. Plenty of places online to buy that mold for folks interested in pouring their own.

See my post on page 1 of this thread for info on banks.
Because now they might be considered collectable. People who collect fishing gear may pay a little more for them in years to come. May be no difference in the action of the plug.
I use a similar approach as mentioned by others. Find fish, or a bank that I have consistantely had luck on and throw the bucktail (dollfly). Winter time through early spring, this means red clay...
Now Mark, he did mention that he was fishing in Hurricane Bob's boat. I believe there is a mandatory drinking rule on that boat...
I fish the area that you mentioned. If you are on the bank you can fish all the way up to the wall past the hydro. The 150 back sign is to keep boats out of that area. Sauger should be starting to...
Should be able to just click on the photo to see a larger sized version.

A nice buck from MHall. I'll have to let him tell you the story :)

General rule of thumb for boats/trucks: if you really need more than 4 years to pay it off, its more boat/truck than you can afford.
