Where can a guy find live bait if fishing Lake Cumberland near the Dam?
Thanks you
Did they re-open the gas station above the Marina? Where can a guy find some minnows.
Is there any bait shops at Taylorsville lake (other than the marina). I havent been in a while, but I was told that the shop at the corner (on top of the hill) stopped selling bait. Just wondering!
I was wondering if anyone has any info on the construction going on at lock #10 on the Ky river. I havent been down there in over a year, but heard there was some work going on. I couldnt find any...
Best to get a $15 trap and drop in a creek. Pays itself off in a couple of trips, and you never run out.
Lake Reba in Richmond has a good crappie population with decent size. There is plenty of shoreline to fish. There is no bait store or marina there, but there is a boat dock and a pier that can be...
This time of year walleye and sauger run fairly shallow (10ft or less) especially below dams and spillways. I only use 1/8 oz jigs and minnows, or twistertails in white or chartreuse. I'm sure those...
I actually hook them through both eyes (dead minnows only) this seems to give them more action and stays on the hook better than nostrils. I lose too many minnows hooking them through the...
I've done it both ways. I'll often fish minnows on bottom while jigging with another rod. Use heavy weight to keep the minnows in place and not pushed downstream in the current.
I actually trap my own minnows and creek chubs. Buy a minnow trap from a sporting goods store for about $15 and toss it in a small creek the night before your trip. I caught over 50 minnow 2 days...
What time did they start biting?
Fished the Falls of the Ohio in Louisville Ky last week and caught a few small sauger. All came after dark. What time are you all catching fish up there?
Thanks for the info guys.
Anyone know of any shoreline access below lock 4 in Frankfort? Looking to chase sauger and walleye there this fall / winter.
Cross into Indiana and fish the Falls of the Ohio shoreline.
Boonesboro State park at lock and dam #10 has great bank access at the old beach below the dam. Also lock #7 west of highbridge ky has access below the dam. You can Google map it. I've caught sauger...
I caught my first sauger of the fall/winter season below Ky river lock 10 @ Boonesboro State Park. It was a tiny fellow only 8" long, but good to see them showing up in the area. Hopefully his...
Wow. Thanks Wormin...I searched far and wide for a topo map of that lake. That comes in very handy.
Thanks for the info. Does the lake close at night or can it be fished after sun down? Darkness tends to bring out some of the bigger fish.
Fished lake Reba recently and was surprised that there were very few people on the lake. This was my first time on this particular lake and I was pleasantly surprised when I caught a 10 inch...
That was great info and I really appreciate it. I like fishing for crappie, catfish, and walleye. I mostly fish rivers, but Herrington is pretty close so I didn't want to pass up an opportunity to...
Anyone knows if there is any good bank/ shore access on Herrington lake. Looks like lots of high cliffs surrounding the lake. Also, is there a decent crappie population in the lake? Any help would be...
Trout don't really thrive very well in Jacobson no matter what the water levels or temps. Jacobson is too shallow, warm, and muddy to sustain a healthy trout population. My guess is that the trout...
There is a wall that protrudes out from the main stucture (between the dam and the spillway) approx 30 feet long. If the wall is visible, it is better to fish the spillway side of the dam. If the...
You are correct Kyriver. I was there on Saturday morning, not Black Friday. I originally planned to fish Black Friday but other things came up. I was there 6-10 but caught both fish around 7:30ish...
I fished ky river dam #10 at Boonesborough state park on Black Friday between 6-10 AM. Caught 2 small sauger confirming that there are sauger that far up-river, and they are moving in for the winter....
There is an Ohio river fishing forum that gives updates on river fishing on a pretty regular basis. The sauger have moved in and are being caught. The water is cool enough, its just a matter of when...
I'm with you on that. This year was tricky on the Ohio. I'm waiting to get after those sauger. I wonder if the Kentucky river offer any good sauger fishing?
Hey wags, I noticed you inquiring about the sauger fishing in the ohio river with very little or no reply. As my name sake... I am also on a hunt for the elusive sauger. If you google (ohio river...
Welcome. Lookin forward to sharing info.
I also live in Lexington. I'm sort of new to ky fishing. I moved here from Ohio and I'm still trying to learn the waters. I havent found any productive waters in the city of Lexington, but there are...
Planning to fish laurel on friday night april 1st. Hope i have something worth posting. Will probably fish close to the dam/ spillway in search of the elusive walleye. Wish me luck, i'll need it.
i fished rt. 227 just under the bridge at great crossing. There were several people fishing the dam, but current was too strong for me. I dont fish elkhorn often but the potential for big fish is...
Finally got out on the water today. This years fishing season has begun. Headed out on a 1 1/2 hr drive to the ohio river @ 6am. (probably not a good idea with all of the recent rain and floods)...
thanx for the info. hopefully i'll have something to post after my trips to laurel.
looking to conquer laurel river lake this year for walleye and crappie. looks like a tough lake to figure out. i will be fishing mostly from bank. any info on where the good bank access points are...
there in not a significant difference in the i.d. Of sauger vs saugeye. I've studied this myself for many years. The only difference in the two is that the saugeye will sometimes have the white...
i am new to ky fishing. I'm also a huge walleye/sauger fan and often fish the ohio river but havent been out yet this year. I hear alot about the dams at cumberland and laural lakes. I'm waiting to...
I see alot of potential in Jacobson Park, but somebody need to grow some nads and set some regulations and limits. They could probably make some decent money selling bait too. It would be nice if...
Thanks guys. The info was a big help. Let me know if I can help you with Any sauger info.
Dose anyone know where to get minnows near the markland dam. If so what time do the shop open. Im dying to get fishing the dams for sauger.
Better off fishing any lock and dam on the Ohio River if you can get there. Plenty off water for deep V's, and lots of walleye, and sauger to catch.
There is bank access to a few Ohio river dams. Markland (In Florence Indiana), and McAlpine (In Jeffersonville Indiana) both have some very good access to the tailwaters below the dams. Although...
While the majority of lake water (and therefore pollution) remain in the lake, river water (and therefore pollution) is continuously flowing downstream. The fish in a polluted lake remain in...
Are there sauger in the boonesboro area of the KY river.
I'm hoping to get a little more rain. Fishing will be good if the water levels come up. It won't be long.
Where do you get em on the KY river, and how far up river do they go. Any chance of catching them at lock and dam 7,8, or 9. Can you catch em in Frankfort.
Ill have to take you up on the offer one day. Been hard to find time lately, Workin too much. I've notice that the amount of rain and the timing makes alot of difference on where and when sauger will...
I'd bet its true. Sauger are known to cruise the beaches especially if there is a change in the bottom (such as rocks) nearby and deeper water to escape to. These areas will produce great catches at...
