It's been a good year. I'm up to 91.
I've researched these fish a lot in preparation for the inevitable occasion when they make their way up the Clinch, Holston, and Powell River into Virginia (so I can catch them). Here's a few things...
The headwaters of South Holston Lake over here in SWVA have some pretty nice populations of whiteys, mate! PM me here or on the Roughfish board if you want to check it out.
They're not uncommon close to the Misterslippery River. Several of the guys on the roughfish board have posted reports of eels in Minnesota over the last year.
In Virginia, if you own the bank of a creek, you own the land to the middle. If you own both sides, you own the land under the water. The only way you can wade without trespassing is in designated...
Have you caught anything else interesting?
Gills & other sunfish have been biting pretty well in Virginia for a couple months..
Good luck!
I've been able to identify 9 shiner species and 5 bullheads that I've caught. They do tend to get confusiing sometimes though. Then there's chubs... Instead of one species like you had in England,...
Bass and brown trout are my favorites, but I go for anything that swims. I'm looking to catch 200 species & subspecies, so I need to do some serious multispecies angling...
I was basically thinking the same as Riverrat, with a pyramid sinker and some cut squid or bloodworms. That's how I've caught Atlantic croakers, spot croakers, star drum, white mullet, and an...
Looking at your photo gallery, it's hard to tell if your bullhead is a brown, black, or yellow. I think your shiner is a striped, though it could possibly be a common, white, or spotfin, though I...
I'll post it on the roughfish boards. There's a guy over there who works for the Minnesota DNR and has probably forgotten more than I'll ever learn about roughfish.
I know my KY/VA trashfish, from intentionally targeting them a hundred plus times a year since 1982... I haven't caught a lot of suckers but I have paid attention to theeir distinguishing...
It looks like a white sucker. Redhorses usually don't have such a protruding mouth, and they usually have red fins and tail. Fallfish and squawfish are minnows, not suckers. They're something...
You guys are both pretty close to me, I'm just over the state line from Jenkins, in Norton, VA.
I'm putting this in the Virginia forum because I've caught the vast majority of these here. About a year and a half ago, I decided to keep track of the species I've caught on rod & reel. So far I'm...
