It is my understanding that Navionics recently did a survey on Patoka and updated the map. I was told that they did the survey. Can't tell you for sure though. I have the card but I have not been...
Do you have the navionics east map?? It has Patoka and combines the Kentucky lakes. Have you looked at it??
Does anyone know why the average fish size has been reduced so much?? Is it due to the dam draw down or does the problem go back farther?? Is is to much pressure, too little education, any ideas??
One side of the lake is idle only (slow side). It is much more shallow and good for panfish. The other side has no speed limit (fast side). It is deeper and the place to catch wipers.
If you want panfish I would recommend fishing the slow side. Wiper fishing is great on Lake Monroe. I would fish the fast side for wipers. May is usually a really good month for them. Good luck!!!
Fishnut and Redear,
What you don't understand is that at somepoint in time a walleye or some other non black bass species might influence a black bass. That is not acceptable to some in our...
I would recommend everyone keep all legal bass you can out of Patoka. Then we won't have to listen to the bass fishermen wanting to hurt all the other angling opportunities at the lake.
Don't feel bad BigBlue.
I think the DNR in Indiana has done a wonderful job the last 10 years in Indiana giving us great public fisheries that are free (license required for those over 17).

Debating????
I'm not sure what you are debating. Go to Dogwood.
I have not heard that but I like the sound of it.
You can always call the biologist office in that area and ask them. They will know one way or the other.
I'm sure there are still some wipers in there but the state has not stocked them for a number of yrs. They are stocking walleye now though.
I didn't start it or contact you Mike, but I did ask the DNR to change to regs. I will try to contact you later in the week. I was actually at Boggs last weekend. I grew up in Loogootee and get...
Patoka does not have wipers. It only has stripers and white bass.
It is a public ramp. It is a very shallow ramp. It would be hard to launch a big boat there. Mostly see john boats launched there. River is very shallow. You can go up river about a 1/4 mile...
What is the primary forage in the quarry??? Does it have shad or yellow perch??
Does anyone know what is going on at West Boggs?? I thought their 5 yr plan included drawing down the lake each yr to try to control the shad. This yr no drawdown has occurred. Has the long term...
I can't speak for Mike but I know a lot of people that would not be in favor of stocking bass. I would rather have them stock bluegill, readear, crappie, and wipers.
If the DNR would stock bass...
The lake is only up about 2 ft. I can't imagine that would close the ramp.
Is there any truth about the lake being scheduled to be drained within the next yr??? Or has any decision been made??
DSPCHAMY,
If someone took a 40 lb striper out of Raccoon why is the state record 35 lbs and why was that fish taken out of the Ohio River???
Sounds like another fish story to me.
Charlie,
Go to jail for drinking a beer??? Look out!!!!!
Lets try to be a little bit reasonable here. I believe in water safety and if a guy is over the legal limit I can go along with that...
I think what has gotten out of hand is the price of boats. I have been shopping for a nice deck boat that I can use to striper fish. I did finally cut a deal on one after about 2 months of...
Mike,
I heard (3rd hand through Bob's bait and tackle) that the DNR has decided to stock wipers in Boggs. I think that is great news although I am a little suspect. I'm sure that no one would...
Mike,
Has there been any more discussions on adding a predator fish to help decrease the shad and improve the panfishing?
Lamb lake is very similar in size to Boggs. They have a shad issue...
any word on what the shad kill is looking like?? Mike, can you give us a report??
It is legal to catch baitfish and quite common using a castnet on Cumberland. Usually you will catch shad which is the preferred bait. Shiners can be bought at most bait stores.
I bet you if you had a sharp stick in your eye, you would trade that for being at Herrington.
Maybe if we all pitch in for some advertising, we could get the Ohio Navy to move there and the rest of us could enjoy Cumberland.
Don,
Do you know if Waitsboro is closed??? Are any ramps between Conley and Burnside open??
please email me some info on both motors. I'd rather have the integral gas tank. How well does it run? What yr is it. scott_bullock@hotmail.com
Are they drawing down the lake at this time??
When do they expect it to get to 680'?
Any idea where the water will be??
Will the creeks still have water on the east end like in Pitman...
Who is saying the resource is under utilized?
Very large black bass in Indiana are not big enough to eat full grown gizzard shad.
I talked to some friends that live by the lake. They fished last week. They said you could catch as many bluegills as you want but the largest they were finding was about 7". They were commenting...
How are you getting you bucktails down to the 10 to 15 ft depth? Are you running downriggers, attaching a lead ball, attaching jet or dipsey divers, other?
Thanks for your help.
Good point topwater. I assumed you were getting it replaced with the same unit or a similar unit. If you are gaining eight years in technology, take the deal and run. Do not pass go, do not...
I guess the first question i have is: What did the warranty cover? You have to read the warranty and see if it covers the fish finder. I doubt that it would be written to cover half the depth...
Did you miss the comment that they did not want a species to compete with the bass?
On a side note, does anyone know if they are still raising tiger muskie at Glendale. I was down there years ago...
They were stocked in Boggs before it was drained. They did great then.
Mike,
I am not a biologist, but have tried to educate myself about stripers.
It is inaccurate to say that stripers would compete with the black bass currently in the lake.
Stripers are...
Mike,
Have there been any discussing lately about adding predator fish like stripers or wipers? They seems to be catching more and more attention on the major resorivors around the state. I have...
I left out a few details of the bachelor party...being a public message board.
Went to Cumberland over the weekend. I went with 10 buddies, most of them fraternity brothers from college. We gathered to celebrate the upcoming wedding of one in the group (bachelor party). So...
Fishing last night from midnight to 4:30. Started on mainlake the first bluff up the lake past waitsboro camp ground. Walleye were up when we got there. We boated one and a bigmouth bass and...
LAST EDITED ON Apr-17-06 AT 06:28PM (EST)[p]I'll be fishing Thursday night. I don't really know what i'm doing. This will be my third night trip. The first I caught 4 walleye and a 4 1/2 lb...
I have some friends that are looking to rent a jon boat next weekend. I told them i have a 15 hp motor i could loan them to put on it. Does anyone know where they can rent a jon boat for a few...
cabela's has them, I'm sure others sell them
I purchased a smelt net with a telescoping handle to help catch them this year. If the shad are abundant, and your wanting to fish the same place your catching shad, a smelt net seems like a better...
Why don't we just tell him we want some money to turn it on? Run it for 2 or 3 years and see how much it helps.
I know the TVA bought the brush chopper barge for Lake Cumberland a few years ago. Everytime i go there it seems to be sitting still. Does anyone have any updates on this? Is it running, is it...
