I haven't read the link yet but have to ask, is that the Perdido Pass bridge in your avatar?
Wow! Eight pages! Is this not slightly a topic of some significance? I have a couple of questions about this topic.
What platform does everyone think would be able to reach the masses, to affect how...
One of the reasons I bought a new 19.5' was after being on KY Lake with it gusting to 30 in a Tracker PT 175. That said, I don't really want to be out there in much of anything when it's blowing like...
I don't use them at all. Yes it makes changing baits a lot faster but I'm usually banging a crankbait off of something and usually it's a rocky bottom, which causes a lot of abrasion to my line. I...
Jim,
After what has happened at Dale Hollow, I would have rather this didn't happen at all, especially on Barren. I know that there are still smallmouth in Dale, but it ruined the lake for a...
The water looks pretty good, actually. I went Saturday and was expecting it to be pretty stained but it was much better than I anticipated. If you go, be careful. Floaters can be any and every...
I would expect that the heavy rain we received this morning will stain parts of the lake a little bit. You should be able to go up into the major creek arms and find some fish around wood cover. I...
Here's a bump, as I would like to see some replies to this question, as well.
In addition to the other responses, there is some access at the Peters Creek and Skaggs Creek bridges. If the water is reasonably clear, you may be able to have good success at either location. ...
I think the lake was in trouble last spring when the algae bloom hit. Not too long after that happened, reports of dead fish began to "surface". I very much hope that I'm wrong but I've just about...
Carbonlite rods are $10 off and reels are $20 off.
I have reels with drags ranging from 20+ lbs. to 8. I typically don't fish a lot of heavy slop, so drag power, for me, really isn't that big of a deal. In my opinion, 8 to 10 lbs of drag pressure...
This one's been up for a few hours, with no response, so I'll give you my opinion. I would think anything from an
SS1SH and up would be fine. The laser series may be okay but I believe that the...
In my opinion, the Shimano Crucial is an excellent worm rod. I have a couple of the 6'6"cork handled med/hvy fast action rods that seem to be just about perfect for me.
As you are looking at rods, I would keep in mind that there will be a difference in the power and actions of rods produced by different companies, which would appear to be the same. To me the action...
If you could go $9 more, I think the Pflueger Presidents are pretty nice for the money. I think the smaller ones go for $49 and the rest go for $59.
I've got the 7' crankbait rod and I love it. Good sensitivity and good action. Not too heavy, pretty comfortable to fish with all day pulling Bandit 300s.
Ambassador 4600 C3 with the thumb bar because they are fairly light weight and are tanks. If I was convinced it would hold up as well as the 4600, I'd go with the revo premier.
I also agree with the other two posters. As bad as I am beginning to dislike Bass Pro, their crankin sticks are pretty good cranking rods for the money. Additionally, I think they are on sale for...
I was there on Sunday, as well. Fished from 10:30 a.m. until almost dark. I fished the creeks, shallow cranking and wound up with 20 bass, 2 whites, and a back hooked carp in the boat. Out of the...
I also use P-Line CX premium for the same reason and mtn lures. I use 10 and 12 lb test.
Do you know that you need to have your boat re-coated? The reason that I ask is that you may be able to wet sand, seal and wax to make your top cap come alive. As for your real question, I don't...
Dale is roughly 4' low and is experiencing a spring turnover in places. With the turnover, the clarity was maybe 12-18", which is pretty dingy for Dale Hollow.
Hope this helps.
From my own experience, the Pro Qualifier is going to be hard to beat, in this price range. The Lew's Speed Spool will out cast it by quite a bit but I'm not ready to say that it's going to be as...
Thank you for the information!
Anybody know if the Corp or Fish and Wildlife still have a day to add fish attractors on Barren? If so, what day is it (or was it)? I did this several years ago and would like to do it again.
I don't know about sauger but I'm pretty sure that they started stocking a native walleye strain in the river, above the lake. As far a catching them, sorry, I don't know.
I think they are great rods for the money. Are there better rods out there? You bet, but you are going to have to pay more. As the other poster mentioned, the BPS rods' action seems to be more...
Well, I've finally gotten this thing back together (mostly) and have come to a conclusion about rear drag Shimano spinning reels. If you decide that you need to take one apart to clean it and...
I don't know you at all but you need to quit posting. You're making entirely too much sense. :D
I don't have a Curado but I do have a Revo premier, a Calcutta and the best casting reel I have is a Pro Qualifier.......Until I got a Lew's. I don't know how it's going to hold up but it's very...
I disagree. There is a real answer to this. The answer to this thread is ......... a big ole Roll Tide back at ya Sweetwater!!!! :)
Thanks for the reply! I have removed the screws. There are 2 in the side of the plate and one in the top which holds a trim piece on the reel seat arm. I removed the handle when I started but I...
I'm trying to clean and lube my reels and I can't find an obvious way to remove the nut on the main shaft without pulling that little pin and I can't move the pin. Does that pin actually pull out or...
I can't speak to durability but I can speak to smoothness and castability. I picked up one of the lower end ($90) reels about a week ago. I got the opportunity to try it out today. All I can say is...
There is a sign on the last point on the right as you pass out of the illwill embayment (past the lodge heading towards Sulphur). That sign indicates where the line is. From there it sort of splits...
No stirring chit here. What I posted is exactly what I've done. Cranks, spinnerbaits, plastics and swimbaits on different types of structure. I don't tournament fish and have no reason to mislead...
The bite really seems to have slowed over the last couple of weeks for me. Three weeks ago, I fished on a Friday and boated over 100, which I've never done anywhere before. Since then it's fallen...
Be careful with the rods with stainless or metallic eye inserts, as the line will eventually eat into the eyes and will abrade.
Honestly, with the rain we are getting, the way the corp is pulling, the floaters and the mudhole it's been, I wouldn't travel very far to go to Barren. It was a mess last Friday.
As stated before, they're likely booked but you may want to try Bobby Gentry or Keith Palmiero (?).
Thanks for the replies. I went with the Calcutta. I have used 4600 and 5600 (or 5000 D's back in the day)Ambassaduers most of my life and the round reels don't really bother me. I was happy when...
Calcutta vs Chronarch. Please post any opinions about which way to go. I'm more concerned with fishability, quality and durability comparisons than the more obvious size, weight, shape, etc. I've...
Gang,
I went to Barren yesterday (Sat) to run the boat, try to locate some fish, get my son out of the house and generally just be outside. Barren is very low and pretty muddy. Those two...
Just a guess but I would bet that the state park ramp on Dale Hollow will be okay by Saturday morning. Most of the roads are clear around Summer Shade KY. I'm roughly 25 miles west of the state...
Good question. I'm not sure that I have really figured it out but I tend to approach it like I would if I don't really have a pattern established. I try to fish different types of structure at...
What he said.
Bobby Gentry and Keith Palmeiro (?) would be great choices for a daytime trip and Greg Brisdeine (?) is a night specialist. Greg and Keith fish out of Horse Creek and I'm pretty sure Bobby fishes...
If you're gonna come down and chill the bite out, please wait until Saturday to start. LOL
Good luck! I think with what FFG suggested and what it appears you already know, you're gonna do pretty...
