Harrison ramp to New Albany Ramp

    Hey,

I have a friend who asked about travelling the Ohio River from Harrison Ramp to New Albany Ramp.

Long story short, a guy he knows told him it was illegal to do that. I call BS.

I see some restricted area around the lock opening, but I'm assuming that does not cover the entire area. I'm also assuming there is some danger associated with that.

Bottom line, I know folks here who do JUST that when the launch from NA and head to the Intepretive center.

So, someone what to chime up with some answers.....

Also, at what levels is it safe for a novice, and when should you NEVER attempt it.

    Thanks,

    Geo

Why would it be illegal? Never heard of that. Attached is a photo of the area and the red line is the way I travel between New Albany and the Clarksville ramp.

There are signs to not enter the "chute" during lock release or some such wordage as to unsafe waters. It's never, ever been a problem for me or anyone I know.

I try to obey the laws but this is a new one on me. If the powers that be were really serious about this, I'd think they'd have a set of buoys or something declaring no entrance.
