Building or Buying a Setup, Need Advice

Been fishing regular Walmart setups and now want to step it up to a nice setup. Want something good for the money, i know some get expensive and some good setups are still reasonable. I want to be able to fish without worrying about rod snapping, line snapping, tangling etc. So what do you guys think would be good?? Also my 12yr old wants a good setup so.....gotta make the kid happy.

Take a look at www.Mudhole.com Everything you need to start building your own rods. Even have some kits that have all the components to build a rod (you'll need a thread wrapper and rod turner too for wrapping thread around the guides and rotating the rod while the epoxy cures). MHX rod blanks are not too expensive and have worked well for me. They have a number of kits using MHX blanks.

Well ended up buying a combo from bait and tackle locally, Shimano Stimula Rod with Mitchell 308X Reel........got it for $54, guess that is decent. Bought my son a Daiwa Rod and Reel Combo for $39.....
