I've always wanted to fish that part of the river.Rode my jet ski in there [for sale $900].My friend hit a rock on her big jet ski.We saw people fishing.the water was at pool.I don't have a boat.my questions are what side of the river is best for sauger?can I fish on the bottom with small minnows ?How do I find out when conditions are right?

^^^^^^^ This, and a quick 101 The Indiana side will be the only access. Don't go there in a boat unless you know the way as your girlfriend discovered. I would use a 1/4 oz jig with a gold hook...they bend easy. You will get snagged quite a bit. I prefere white or chart. colors but others will work. Tipping with a minow helps. Keep your rod tip high and I wouldn't throw up stream. To find out the water levels call 502-775-5056 updated every 4 hours and updated from the nws every day at 2:00. what is a good level for sauger ?
You can find them at 17 but from the shore it's going to be tough. Anything under 15 at the lower gauge is going to be better. The best is when it stay's the same for several day's. I don't like it when the river yo-yo's up and down. I suggest fishing as close to the dam as you can or the first drop there at the shelf below the museum. Chuck
