My wife and I will be going down this weekend for some Bluegill/Redear fishing. Would anyone be kind enough to point us in a good direction?
What part of the lake/lakes will you be fishing?
We will be staying up North and planned on fishing the Northern Barkley area, but nothing nothing in particular. Willing to trailer if needed so my wife can catch some slabs.
I am not specifically familiar with North Barkley. However, when I visit this time of year they are either spawning or almost ready to spawn. Towards the backs of bays, I would look for a combination of flooded buckbrush, pea gravel and flooded mustard flowers. Fish a redworm under a bobber or on the bottom and you should pickup some decent fish. The water temps are getting close. If they haven't moved in to spawn yet, move out of the bay just a bit and try the cover in those areas (flooded bushes, docks etc.). Other than when extremely flooded and the water looks like chocolate milk, these tactics have almost always produced fish.
Thanks for the info. My wife and I really appreciate the help. I'll post how we do, hopefully with som nice pics. Thanks again.
I am unable to make my annual treks to Barkley this year. Any photos would be excellent! Let me know how you do. I'm really going to miss those big redear...
Will be there Monday. Hope the lake will be in decent shape.
Mainly after gills and redears. Will be jigging for some crappies as well.
