On a fly rod and in that current....had to be one hell of a fight!! That's one of the biggest stripers I've seen out of the Ohio

Manbear, I reluctantly had to keep the fish. It was a long fight in pretty swift water. after a couple of pics I made an honest effort to revive the fish.. She would not kick and swim off on her own so I made the decision to harvest the fish. I am a huge advocate of catch and release.. Especially on striped bass in a unique fishery where it was caught. I don't know about your buddies fish but I can tell you this. The measurements were at 42in. Long by 26in girth. Putting the weight over 30 pounds easy.

No guessing weight.. Weighed on a IGFA certified 30lb boga. It bottomed the scale out. The fish was well over 30.

    Beautiful fly rod striper!

Nice fish! I fly fish and tie most of my own flies. I've fly fished in fresh and salt water. Even took a 10 weight offshore for king mackerel. The idea of catching stripers in the Ohio on the fly is exciting. I have a bass boat, but have been reluctant to put it in the river. I may have to re-assess my reluctance. Are you using fast sinking lines and shad type flies? Anchored or drifting with the current? Congratulations!
