Bob, are you referring to "vertical jigging" or are you referring to "jigging rod" as a casting/trolling/vertical jigging/etc. rod ??

Vertical jigging ... I'd recommend at least a 10' rod, and would go up to a 12' rod ... but, that would depend on your preference & budget. The reel just has to balance the rod, since it's primary function is to hold line. The line, if mono ... I'd stick with 6-8lb test. If you use braid, I'd say 8/1 or 10/2 would suffice.

    ... pappy

for my casting jigs i use a 6'10" falcon low rider drop shot rod paired with a pfluger president spinning reel with 4lb yellow high vis mr. crappie mono. it has a soft tip and a strong back bone. it has fought everything from a 4 inch crappie to a 7 pound bass to a 10 pound catfish and handled all of them great. that is my favorite setup.

I'm really fond of the b&m double tap rods. The do have a small duck commander logo on, but it's easy to ignore

My personal favorite is a 10' B'n'M Sam Heaton super sensitive paired with a 25 or 30 series spinning reel (pfluger or shimano) and 6-8 lb high vis line.

That's a dandy too. Got to know Sam a little when I was a kid, and he was guiding of Bay Springs. He always took time to show me a few tricks.
