Check and see if you can join a charter group that needs an odd person. Not a bad price for a half day fishing off shore. ( Not that I'm saying you're odd!!)

If you're wanting to do a little fishing just to catch something you could stop at tackle store and buy a few pre-tied 2 or 3 hook pompano rigs, a few 2 or 3 ounce pyramid sinkers and some frozen shrimp. Twelve lb. line on you reel should be sufficient. Tie on the rig, use the smallest weight that will hold bottom and pitch it out in the beach, bay or lagoon. Usually there are whiting, crevalle, spots or if your lucky a pompano that will take. Keep in mind that almost every fish in saltwater will either bite, sting, poke or slice you with their gill plate if you don't handle them properly.
Pic of pompano rig below. I have a jig that I use to make my own pompano rigs but store bought rigs should work just fine. They work wonderful in freshwater for cat fishing too.
Look around here for info. Go to the pier...

thanks for your replies. hopefully I'll be able to give a report.
Anybody able to give a report for PCB? I am headed down in two weeks and will report on how I do.
I have always tried wading the back bays throwing soft plastic shrimp on jigheads and mirrocraft topwater lures. Never done any good though.
We did best with live shrimp on chicken rigs. Caught sheepshead and other stuff around the jetties.
