I like Kendall below the dam.

We're planning a short trip to Cumberland in a couple of weeks and plan to tent camp for a night. Can I get some recommendations on campgrounds? Preferably closer to the dam. I looked at the State Park campground and as far as I can tell, all of the sites are paved which makes it impossible to stake a tent down.
Kendall is your best bet and a fine place to camp
If you have a boat, camp out on Lowgap island. This time of year it's possible nobody else would be camping there. It's straight out in the main lake from Jamestown and State Dock. There are some soft Sandy Spotts where you can beach your boat.
I am pretty sure I've seen a lot of tents at the State Park campground.

Both State Park and Kendall sites are fine for tents. Of the two campgrounds, I perfer Kendall. Have fun!
Kendal will close down on Nov. 1
