    Kentucky-Barkley Lakes - Update

I'd be remiss if I didn't report what occurred during our classic tourney the 28th and 29th as I had asked for spots from the board and the term "I told ya so" resounds in mind. If you remember, one of the fellas suggested the Blood River, towards the front on the secondary points etc., well duh, we didn't listen, instead we headed south of Paris, halfway to New Johnsonville, around the power lines. Had great fish the first day as it was overcast and mimicked the conditions we practiced in up to the tourney. Caught em on a mixture of tubes, jigs and buzzbaits, with the biggest going 5.66 and good for big bass the first day. We had 14.56 the first day and were in third place which had a daily side pot payout of $750. To make a long story short, we went from hero's to zeros the second day, the sun killed us (hey we hadda have some excuse right?). End of the second and last day saw a team bring a total two-day weight of just shy of 32# to the scales, good for just shy of $8500 overall (37 boat classic). Paid out 15 places. Wouldn't ya know it, the winners fished the front of the Blood on the humps etc. :-( The rest of the top five primarily fished the weed flats at New Johnsonville, back of the islands, in the duck blinds. Jig and pigs and big frogs helped as well as dipping spinnerbaits. Water levels were squirrely, came up and then down, water temps are to high for this time of year also. As usual the folks at the Moor's were top notch, we did stay at the Inn at Paris for several days and it's a shame what the state of Tenn is doing with its crown jewel. They've apparently decided to concession the place out to some firm in Atlanta, all the while neglecting the place (have been for two years now). The hallway and most rooms carpets are stained and stink, the only redeeming factor of the whole place is the fact that the buffet is still tops. Hate to see the employees there displaced, we've become friends with many of them over the years and it's sad to see the state of disrepair the state of Tenn has allowed to occur. That's it folks, can't wait to get back next year.
