Rest in Peace

Gene Woodside, who operated a bait and tackle shop on Holmes Street in Frankfort for nearly half a century, passed away this week.
It was my honor and pleasure to know Gene for over 40 years. When you stepped into his tackle shop, it felt like home. My brothers and I would always stop by his place even if we didn't really need anything. I would often bring my kids by and show them off; Gene doted over them like they were his own.
I wonder if 20 years from now tackle shops like Gene's will even be a thing. It will be a shame if they're not.
Rest in peace Gene and condolences to your family.

Rest in Peace
The first tackle shop I visited when I came to Kentucky almost 40 years ago. Always a pleasure to go in there as I did for many years before I moved to Kentucky Lake. Always sad to hear about the passing of a legend.
Capt Dave
Such sad news. I have been a frenquite visitor since I was a kid and had began visiting with my son. Will truly miss Mr. Woodside and his stories.
Where'd you fish when you were around these parts, Dave?
Not much I did not fish when I lived in that area: Elkhorn, Guiest Creek, waded the Salt before they built the dam then fished Taylorsville, Kentucky and Ohio Rivers, Beaver, Herrington, Cumberland, Dale, Green,,,,as you can see the list goes on.
If you're ever up this way and get an itch to relive your Elkhorn wading days give me a shout.
sorry to hear that
