In the Autumn Sunset

Like butterflies
To their migration roost
Too flies the killdeer
As shadows lengthen
In the autumn sunset

Like the fox
Emerging from its den
I too turn up my collar
To the cooling breeze
In the autumn sunset

Like the great blue heron
Motionlessly standing
Too stands a lone doe
With a blending new coat
In the autumn sunset

Like the kingfisher
In late evening search
I too find my rod unbent
To shallow fins
In the autumn sunset
