    Central KY Lakes

Anybody fished Tville, Cedar, Guist, Beaver, etc in the last few days? How is the color? Temp?

    Did you catch any bass?

Looking to fish one Friday. Then head to Cumberland Monday.

    Thanks!

Fished Cedar creek Sunday. Water was the usual green color for the most part, muddy in the back of the creeks. Temp was 46° and the bite was slow for us. Caught 1 on a spinnerbait.

Water color can vary with depth

Did you know that the very bottom of the lake can clear up faster than the top surface water? The bottom even in a river has more friction with the water and slows the current down and allows the suspended matter to settle out faster near the bottom than in the mid depths of the river or streams. And lakes that look stained or colored on the surface can be clear near the bottom or should I say clearer. Some thing to keep in mind.

Also this time of year the fish will seek the warmest water that they can find. They follow the insects and zoo planton which follow the algae and other small one celled plant that are in the water. Areas in the upper reaches of the reseviour have more nutrients and are a shallower and warm up faster and are more fertile. Areas in shallower water with dark bottoms can absorb more sunlight energy and warm up faster. If the wind has been blowing towards these areas from the South and piling up on a North Bank with good southern exposure to the sun it can warm up much faster than other areas. Fish will seek the life in these areas as soon as the ice melts on the surface of the lakes or rivers. On rivers the back bays that are out of the current and exposed to the sun longer during the day and are shallower will hold more life and thus more fish too. Check out these areas this time of the year.

You can catch fish all year long if you study their habits and know what they are doing year round. Now if a cold front has passed through and it's a cold bright day then the fish may be back in the deep water hiding and sulking. But if you get some nice weather two or three days in a row hit the spots I mentioned above. Things can change though out the day as the sun climbs higher in the sky and set back below the horizon again. So timing is everything. Being in the right spot at the right time is the key to catching fish. But we all know that and strive to fish the right spots at the right time. And don't forget about the Moon cycles too. When the fish have a full moon they have enough light to feed all night long if it's not cloudy. They may be full by morning time. Just as we can't be tempted by more food when we just finished a big juicy fat delicious T Bone or any other of our favorite meals and have over eaten and are bloated. We don't want to eat any more and just want to go take a nap or fall asleep in the lazy boy chair watching the football game. Fish too get tired and need to rest. These are the times the go neutral or dormant and it's harder to get them to bite.
