    Float Tube Question

Quick question that I can't find an answer to. If fishing in a float tube, are you required to have a life jacket with you? I'd like to avoid a ticket but don't want to bring along something that's not required either.

I used to float tube fish quite often and I always wore a PFD. I am not sure of the regulations and did not find it in the Fishing and Boating Guide. I would call KDFWR info line at 1-800-858-1549. They usually respond quickly when I have called for clarification of rules/regulations.

I have an email into them currently. I couldn't find anything anywhere either. In some western states, it's required. I'll post back when I get a response.

    Got a response!

    Well here is the answer...

According to KDFWR Law Enforcement you have a lifejacket either on you or on your float while on the water.

    Near death drowning

Havent tubed since I almost bit the big one on the CT River fishing stripers. Not sure if a life vest would even have helped me though. I would have had to have been wearing it at the time. Very scary. Lakes and ponds I probably wouldn't bother but... big fast water...yea.

I don't think I have ever seen anyone using one of these. What is the advantage/disadvantage to a float tube vs a kayak?

I know a guy who is going to give it to me. Main advantage for me is I can deflate it and put it in my car. Only plan of fishing small water although if I had a way to get rides back to my car I'd hit the Cumberland River!

    shuttle

Jimmy and Patti up in Jamestown will move your car and or trailer for you
for like $25. Five miles would be a long way in a tube. **** to Mann rd
or Mann to Helms would probably be ok. Helms to Winfery's is a long way.
