I've had some GREAT topwater days this time of year. I've also had some great days on LONG flats where the shad are up there, and bass are blasting those shad.
If you find gigantic schools of whites on the shad, just remember, there are probably a bunch of good bass mixed in with tthose. Sometimes it takes throwing the kitchen sink at them and getting a couple to bite........THEN hang on.
I remember a 4 day trip a few years ago where 2 days we sucked it up and on the 3rd day, about 5pm, we found a GIGANTIC school of whites. I threw everything under the sun at them, then tied on a small , white swimbait with a MUCH heavier head ( 3/4 oz). That sucker dropped too fast for the Whites, and once it was on the bottom, I'd pop it, and BOOM.
Gadgetman and I caught 50 or so in that bay on that bait, and they were all 3-4-5 lb fish.
We repeated that in 5 different bays, running back and forth as the reloaded until just after dark and had well over 120 + bass that day.
It was SO good, we cancelled the last day and went home.
Ah, I REALLY want that to happen this weekend.

Read my report on the Kentucky Lake Reports page. To add to that, the BFL Super tournament was held here this past weekend. There was four 5 fish bags weighed out of 94 boats on Saturday.....three 5 fish limits weighed out of top 18 boats that fished on Sunday.
