I was driving home on I-40 from North Carolina Monday afternoon when those flooding rains came though and let me tell you that was intense!!! I have been out in Hurricanes, major downpours and downright flooding rains before but that was one of the worst driving conditions I have encountered.
I'm sure being a mountain highway and flooding rains made it worse but I was hydroplaning going 35-40 mph and hitting flooded parts of the road while going slower and the SUV sliding. One positive note is the construction on that road in the mountains was not going on and the roads were **** near barren in some areas.
I have seen some of the flooded towns and I see why...that much rain has to go somewhere and nothing can drain it away fast enough.
