    Sauger fishing at Meldah dam

Buds and I went to meldah dam fishing Monday 12-4 17. Water was good and we caught 17 keeper sauger , ranging from 10 inches to 17 inches. Caught them all on minnows. Fishermen using jigs caught some but minnows clearly
out-caught jigs. They are in there but it will only get better. Fished right below the pier. Will be going back soon. 3 plus inch minnows worked best.

I actually trap my own minnows and creek chubs. Buy a minnow trap from a sporting goods store for about $15 and toss it in a small creek the night before your trip. I caught over 50 minnow 2 days ago, and used them that day. I dumped the rest back in the creek to be re-caught another day. Saved tons of money on bait.

Always catch my own minnow from creeks. They seem to work better than store bought, plus the price is right. Fish seem to bite all day.
