Make America Great Again

Great and powerful nations have fallen for various reasons throughout history. Babylon, Rome and the Incas to mention a few. These nations became overindulgent and complacent. In 1787, Alexander Tyler, a Scottish History Professor, responded to the Athenian Republic 2000 years earlier: “A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government. A democracy will continue to exist up until the time voters discover they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship.”

Professor Tyler also said a democracy follows the following sequence:

1. From bondage to spiritual faith;
2. From spiritual faith to great courage;
3. From courage to liberty;
4. From liberty to abundance;
5. From abundance to complacency;
6. From complacency to apathy;
7. From apathy to dependence;
8. From dependence back to bondage

Today, over 31 million Americans are supported one or another on the gifts from the government paid to them from money collected from the taxpayers. The more people become dependent on the government, the fewer workers will pay taxes. Also, the fewer the entrepreneurs, the fewer the workers, thus greater the demand for higher taxes. In the 60’s, immigrants were told, “if you work hard, become productive and honorable, there is no limit to what you could accomplish.” Today, we allow immigrants and their families to enter this country without any skills without any promise to become productive. Instead, incoming immigrants have become dependent and a burden to educational, healthcare and welfare systems.

There are other problems that have been eating away at the moral fiber of this country for a long time. A few of these are the break down of the family unit, drugs, legal injustice, loss of morals and greed. Have we as a country allowed ourselves to become so selfish and uncaring as to deprive our children the life skills to be happy and productive in society. There is a great reason why we as human beings are so different than the animals on this earth. We do have a soul. We should know the feeling of empathy, sympathy and forgiveness. Have we as a country become so selfish, so greedy, so drug dependent that these feelings have become numb? I am afraid we have been exhibiting these symptoms for a long time now. There are Trojan horses among us. Drugs from around the world have been pouring into our country for decades, undermining our moral fabric. Our immigration policies of the past will threaten the very core of our democracy in the future. Today, there is confusion among the misinformed and there are exaggerations, distortions and misinterpretations of the truth being highlighted on our screens daily. We must inform ourselves to the real truth to protect ourselves from the pitfalls that keep us from being victims of the unjust. What would happen if we as a nation followed the Ten Commandments? Maybe it could truly make America great again.
