I would be interested in knowing if the spot lock actually works; even in windy conditions?
I am thinking of getting one.

I have the terrova i pilot on my pontoon boat and it has held it right on spot in 15+mph winds on cumberland. If it can keep a pontoon (aka marine kite) it passes the test in my book. Worth every penny

Spotlock is greatly improved over the first version in the Gen2. Single direction wind is a piece of cake for either model. The Gen2 is much improved with cross wind conditions. NOTE: Be certain to install the compass puck with the Gen2. Quality of service is actually worse without it.

I have the Motorguide XI5 with built in GPS it has spot lock and allot of other cool features and works great.
The new motors and GPS units are truly remarkable in how they can aid you will on the water.

I have always ran minkotas on my boats. Was going to buy one of the selfdeploying types when they first came out but there were so.e issues I had read about. I picked up the motorguide and couldn't be happier . It's an amazing unit.
If this is the quality of their other motors I think they will be around for quit awhile
Yes, it does............I've been in serious wind and it holds quite effectively. You need to be pretty correct on boat weight and stuff, so the spin up process to move you is set right. If your boat weights 500 lbs but you set it high the motor will ramp up fast, and could toss you out.
Just be mindful of some of the setup parms....

I haven't had much luck as I feel it is always so dramatic, one minute it is holding good then all of a sudden it is running full steam to get back to zero. Someone recently told me that the key is to set it when it is in an absolute stop. I haven't had the chance to try it. Is this the ticket?

Yes, there are a few settings to tell the motor to "sneak" up to the spot, and a couple to tell the motor the weight of the boat.I haven't had much luck as I feel it is always so dramatic, one minute it is holding good then all of a sudden it is running full steam to get back to zero.
