Wolf Creek will be sluicing until further notice

I saw the notice "Wolf Creek will be sluicing until further notice" on the TVA info app. I assume this means that the top gates will be open?

How is that affecting the fishing on the river?

We have a trip planned for tomorrow, and I want to know what to look out for.

    Thanks!

Sluicing means they are running the gates at the base of the gate wall, that shoots plumes of water about 40 feet in the air to oxygenate the water for the fish. My experience is stay away. Most of the current runs right back into the dam....a dangerous situation if you are not familiar with it. It actually can make fishing better downstream as it adds a little color to the water. Start at the dam ramp and go downstream.

Sluicing is a different animal. Rogue waves , current switches and it all changes by the minute. Stay well away from it and your boat better start the first crank, big trolling motors won't keep you from getting sucked in. Slice currents pull you towards it. I have fished below the dam for many years, we sit between generatorboils and fish, all bets are off up next to that sluce.

I can never correctly present whatever bait I'm using if I'm fishing anywhere from the launch ramp to the dam when the sluice gates are running. as shellkat said everything is changing by the second. one minute the boat is going this way and your bait is going the opposite direction a 100 mph, the next thing you know you are spinning in circles and the line is trying to get under the boat. I dont even look towards the dam anymore when they are sluicing, I just turn and drift downstream
