Leadership starts with a vision and actions necessary to make wise decisions, including strategy, delegation and authority to select and communicate with leaders and advisors. Good leaders are servants of the people they serve and should show restraint when using authority. Good leaders should be like shepherds; they know their people and communicate with regularly. A good leader seeks true wisdom, and true wisdom knows no age limits.

With leadership often comes recognition, and with recognition comes the temptation to control and manipulate the system to gain power for personal gains. The idols people in leadership worship are more likely to be political power and the monetary gains that come along with it, rather than statues. Can you imagine today a CEO’s genuine concern for your family?

When it all comes down to the naked truth, there is no authority except which God has established. Behind leadership is God Himself. Josiah did what was right in the eyes of the Lord and did not turn aside to the right or to the left. Remember in ancient times, both religious authorities and the Romans ruled with a controlling power that eventually crumbled. On the other hand, King David ruled his people with great leadership skills and love for his people. Jesus was the Greatest Leader the world has ever known, and He came to serve, not to be served.

In 1 Timothy 2, Paul tells us to pray “For kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.” Paul wrote these words under one of the harshest rulers in history, Nero.
