Learn the latest about sportfish and Asian carp in the region

FRANKFORT, Ky. (March 8, 2019) Learn more about efforts to combat Asian carp and the state of fishing in western Kentucky during a Town Hall meeting set for 7-9 p.m. (Central) March 21 at the Lyon Convention Center in Eddyville.

The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources holds these public meetings annually to keep residents updated on fisheries-related topics. All interested persons are welcome to attend.

Fisheries Director Ron Brooks will provide a broad overview of the department’s efforts to protect the resource while building better fishing opportunities to the public. Other presenters will include department Nuisance Species Biologist Jessica Morris and Western Fisheries District Program Coordinator Adam Martin.

Morris will discuss the planned installation and testing of a bio-acoustical fish fence to deter Asian carp from entering Lake Barkley. She also will provide an overview of other department efforts to combat Asian carp in Kentucky and Barkley. Discussions will include partnerships with other agencies in areas beyond the two reservoirs.

Martin will focus on the health of key sportfish populations in the two lakes, habitat projects, cormorants and potential new initiatives with bass tournaments.

The Lyon Convention Center is located at 309 Lee S. Jones Park Road.
