The Written Word

The written word
May preserve facts, laws
Speeches, poetry, feelings
Thoughts and emotions
Over thousands of years
The written word
Allows knowledge to be
No longer limited to memory
For memory is frail
The written word
May deprive or illuminate
Words are never pure or sacred
Unless the Word of God
The written word
Are the fruits of our heart
And have no power
Without the truth of their reality
The written word
Is never effective if kept in dormancy
And without the light of freedom to sprout
Words cannot be shared or to bless
Either words lie in darkness
Or they come to light and touch
Let us not imprison words
Of profound and acquired wisdom
Of love and inspiration
Of history and life experiences
Of life-changing ideas
From a loving
And concerned heart
Let them find
The warmth of the sun
In the morning light
To agree, disagree
To Love, inspire
And find peace
