Anyone know if Coosa Bass are in the Ohio or its tributaries? If not what would be the closest body of water (from Louisville) to catch them.
They are all over the place in the state.
I believe Martin's Fork is the only population of them in Kentucky.
They are in Western Kentucky. The Tradewater River In Western Kentucky and all the creeks that empty into it have Coosa Bass in them. Anytime you have a little bass that will viciously attack a twelve inch work everytime you dip it in the water in the same exact spot it will be a Coosa Bass. And if you stick your finger down in the water and wiggle it then it will then attack your finger and will feel like it is ripping your finger off.
According to B.A.S.S. there is so no such thing as a Coosa Bass, but rather it is called Red Eye Bass ( not to be confused with rock bass). found in Al, GA, and TN.

I think the Coosa bass is just a nickname, but KDFWR calls them Coosa bass. They must not get very big around here because the state record is only .53 pounds according to KDFWR web site. A friend of mine recently moved to Georgia and lives on a river that is supposed to be a good fishery for them.According to B.A.S.S. there is so no such thing as a Coosa Bass, but rather it is called Red Eye Bass ( not to be confused with rock bass). found in Al, GA, and TN.

Gotta love how the black bass hybridizes itself!! makes for some interesting breeds out there! I'm sure if AL, GA, and TN can support them that some waters in KY can too, just a matter of time before they establish themselves. I'm in favor!! Here is a good page with alot of details on the species:

and actually the Scientific name does include Coosa in it: Micropterus coosae
I caught a small 10" Coosa Bass yesterday in Little River several miles upstream from it goes into Lake Barkley.
I wished I had took a picture but I was in my kayak and drifting into some fast water and big logjams and I wasn't comfortable drifting into that water so I quickly released the fish. My fish was colored just like pic you posted except my fish had a obvious red eye. My fish looked just like pics of Coosa Bass I've found online and Ky has a Coosa Bass state record so they are in Ky.
