    Taylorsville catfishin

I was thinking about trying to catch a few catfish at Taylorsville. Without shad, what would you guys suggest to try for bait. I don’t really have any experience catfishing, just want to take a friend out some night

Catalpa worms work great if u can find someone with a tree right now is the time to get them. If not, live or cut blue gill, night crawlers, chicken liver, creek chubs, hot dogs etc.. They will eat a lot of different stuff if u can find em.

You use chicken livers & you're just as likely to catch a Hybrid Striped Bass as you are a catfish !!

If you had a cast net, you'd probably be able to use live & cut Shad. From what I'm hearing from a buddy that's been there recently, Shad schools are all over the place, up in the river end (Van Buren to the horseshoe bend especially).

Only time I've ever specifically fished for Catfish at Taylorsville, I used my cast net to catch Shad .... cut them in half ... tied up to a stump in one of the cuts on the main lake ... hooked the Shad under a float about 4ft deep ... and cast them out about 20ft past the mouth of the cut. Caught several good eating sized Channels.

Just a thought, but if I was going to use hotdogs ... I think I'd buy the cheapest ones I could find (the greasiest ones), & marinate them in garlic powder & soy sauce.

I live close to tville and i spent a little time on this so my kids would be interested and have fun doing it. I have about 40 noodle jugs i bought online but i never run more than 15. I just want it to be fun. Drop on points off main lake channels. Then we head out a way and swim so we can watch them. After we get 3 we go check all and put back out. We usually check them about every 45 min to an hour only because we have fish. The noodles should have 1-5 ft of line on them. We have tested many many baits and labeled the jugs to track. Crawlers, livers, shrimp, strawberry chicken, reg hot dogs, diff flavor hot dogs but in the end oscar meyer all beef were hands down the best. If you are open to this type of fishing this is a gift. I let my kids take friends and they have so much fun. GL bg

All very good ideas. I’ve never thrown a casting net, nows as good as time as any to learn. Hopefully a few catfish in the skillet will be in my future
