    Osprey Sighting - Central KY

Labor Day evening I was on my favorite Central KY creek and was pretty fired up to have an osprey come around the bend about a quarter mile away, flying at full speed about 10' above the water. My first thought was heron, second was bald eagle, then when it got closer, figured out it was an osprey.

Went right over our heads and perched 100 feet up in a sycamore. Pretty danged cool.

Anyone else ever seen one in Central KY?

I actually think I saw one at Taylorsville Lake last week. It was a very large bird with a white belly and head. Thought it was a bald eagle at first as I have seen one there recently but realized it was not after it flew over head.
Also just saw 2 bald eagles at Guist Creek the other day. They both flew out of the same tree but I did not see a nest. Very cool.

Cool. I'm on Elkhorn 25-30 times a year and I've never seen one.

Yes sir, and believe it or not last year I saw an American white pelican down there. In 50 years of fishing the falls I had never seen or thought they would be this far north but, there he was. Chuck

White Pelican use the Mississippi Flyway all the way to Canada. If you place you arrow on the red line you can scroll back and see them on the flats.
