Two Sparrows

Yesterday
Winter winds
Brought snow
And bitter temperatures
As darkness fell
With a shivering chill
A female cardinal huddled
In the corner of my window sill
With bowed head
And fluffed feathers
She weathered the night
It was God’s protection
A miracle of His creation
“Look at the birds of the sky
They do not sow or reap
Or store away in barns
And yet the heavenly Father feeds them
Are not two sparrows sold for a penny
Yet not one of them will fall
To the ground outside God’s care
All creatures look to God
To give them their food
At the proper time
Are you not much
More valuable than they”
