Looking for information for an article I'm writing about Huntingburg (IN) Lake. I fished there years ago and caught some nice bass, but I haven't been there in awhile. I have a report from a biologist that the bass don't recruit well but there are some good ones in the lake. My podiatrist says there's a state record saugeye swimming there. The biologist confirms there's a good population since the gizzard shad are numerous.
Any fish stories about the lake would be appreciated.

That lake is a typical gizzard shad lake. Looking at the DNR surveys of the lake would be a good place to start (speaking of which, what happened to that link on their website?) There used to be nice bass in there, but the fishing pressure has taken its toll on them. USA Bassin had tournaments there and the results were quite disappointing. I was actually surprised at just how bad they were. As far as a state record hybrid walleye, I have a hard time believing that. I don't typically target saugeye, but certainly catch my fair share. I can probably count on 1 hand how many over 20 inches I have caught.
