Question for night fishinig

Hello everyone,,

Question for those who successfully fish at night:
Is the bite better?
Do you catch bigger fish than during the day?
Do you use the green lights?

Thinking about more night fishing when the boat traffic is less and usually the wind dies.

Depends on what species you are targeting. Night fishing can be very productive. I use green lights during early summer for multi-species like crappie, striper, walleye, and cats. It is like any other bite, sometimes its really productive and some times you get skunked. As far as bass fishing, I do not use a green light. I will use a black light in those situations and depending on the time of year throw anything from a spinner bait to a jig.

Since you asked about using "green" lights, I will assume you are referring to night fishing for Crappie. With that in mind, these are my answers to your questions :

#1 - the bite can be better, but not always
#2 - you can catch bigger fish, but not always
#3 - green lights submerged do work, but so do white lights (LED lights draw less battery power)

Biggest advantage to the angler : cooler temps, less boat traffic
Biggest disadvantage to the angler : decreased visibility, bugs, a need for more organization within the boat, the need for some form of lighting to see rod tips (or floats, if they're being used)

Since I retired last summer I have tried night fishing for bass at Lake Cumberland three time (including last night, (only caught 6 small bass, water temp was 87) so I appreciate all the comments in this thread. I had better luck earlier in July when water temp was closer to 80.
I use a blacklight and green light, green gives me much better visibility but don't know if maybe it bothers the bass????
Never learned how to use a spinnerbait or jig so I mostly throw Texas rigged soft baits. I love the peace and quiet of night fishing, temps are great vs. day time and no recreational boaters to worry about.
