Pulled my 18 foot tracker tournament all over this state with a 3.6 v6 dodge truck. Never had any trouble.

I am looking to buy an SUV and would prefer a 6 cylinder. I am looking at several with towing capacity of 5,000 lbs. My boat is an aluminum ProHawk boat. I will be replacing my 8 cylinder 1998 Chevy Silverado which pulls it like it is a feather. Any vehicle recommendations to do the job are appreciated and any issues I can expect in downsizing to 6 cylinders.

I don't believe 6cyl vs 8cyl really matters. My 6cyl Ecoboost has a higher towing capacity than an 8cyl. You will obviously feel a big difference going from a truck to a lighter SUV.

My Suburu Outback can tow up to 3000 lbs.
I get 21 mpg pulling my Tracker with
Toyota Rav4 Adventure can tow 3500 Lbs.
Both are 4 cylinders and tow it easily.

Ford Explorer does up to about 5600 lbs with a V6. You may want to consider a 4x4 pickup 4 door Ford F150 Crew cab as their 6's both fuel inecgted or turbo charged pull a bunch with ease.

I appreciate all of the responses. We are kind of looking at Outback and Kia Telluride which both have vehicles with 5,000# towing capacity.
