Let Winter Have Its Time
This morning
Snow fell before sunrise
Leaving a blanket of downy white
While on vaporous chimney tops
Black birds huddled at first light
From under the pantry door
A cold draft creeps
Across the kitchen floor
Through frosted windows
And snow laced seals
Redbirds sit noble and fluffed
There’s not much I can do or say
But watch cold gray clouds
As time passes the day
As I sit down by the warming fire
With my glass of fine red wine
A book of mystery
Just Let winter have its time
