What are black salty's?
Search Fishin.com |
We have discussed fishing black salties for striper before. Yesterday I had a chance to fish them again, but this time I was able to put them over a school. Two of my five rods went down! All together we boated five keepers and one catfish, but it took a while. I’m sure alewives would have been much better, and probably shiners too if I could get decent ones. But I’m definitely not going to be scared of using salties in the future. L.L.

Black salties are a lab created baitfish that, to me, resemble a cross between a goldfish and a carp. They do not reproduce in nature, and therefore are legal for bait in Kentucky (check your local regulations). The beauty of them is that they are super hardy. You can fish them all morning, put them back in the live well and fish them again later. They are available at some of the Bait shops around lake Cumberland. I haven’t really seen them too many other places. You can find out more about them, and even order them online. L.L.
Much appreciate the insight!!
