Fishing this time of the year can be action packed and very rewarding. Fishing in the fall in Galveston is traditionally a great time to get out on the water and since it doesn't get that cold here, we are able to fish pretty much year round. Right now I have been having some excellent days, mainly between the fronts. I have been fishing the north end of our bay system. The shallow flats and deep channel are fairly close to each other and this tends to get the fish to migrate to this area. The speckled trout and red fish will go to the deeper water in the channel at night, then feed on the flats when the sun comes up early in the morning.
All this makes it easier to target feeding fish and makes for a fun action packed day. I have been using live shrimp under a popping cork and finding some clean water and keying on active or nervous bait for really great results. Fishing the beginning of the incoming or outgoing tide in certain areas has worked well for us. I will fish this area until the water temp starts to hit the 70's again, which is usually towards the end of February, then I will head towards lower Galveston and West Bay. Hope you enjoyed the report. Until next time, I will see you on the water.
