Kingston Steamplant or Bull Run report???

I'm thinking about hitting one of these two plants or both this weekend. Are the stripers there? How about bait? I'm driving 4-5 hours, so any information is greatly appreciated.

RE: Kingston Steamplant or Bull Run report???

Kingston has been more productive the past few weeks. Bull run has been really slow. They are not running norris dam enough to keep the fish in there. There is at least a 7 mile plume of 60 degree water. I landed a 27 pounder on melton hill today but it was miles below the steamplant. I realize that most out of state people that fish melton hill are unaware of the slot limit. If you fish melton hill, 32-42 inch fish must be released and only 1 fish may be over 42 inches. Good luck with the fishing trip.

Thanks for the information. Has the bait been tough to find? I usually find it out by the bridge, but it can be tough at times.

What bridge are you referring to?? On Melton Hill, you can easily get bait in bull run creek. There should be lots of bait near Kingston too. I fish with skipjack alot and kingston is the place to get them right now.

    Hey Bd,

Have you fished under a full moon at the steam plants? If so any luck?

How long do you think the water needs to run before they tighten up around the plant? It appears they are generating some water Saturday ~5000CFS and the hill is runnig a few as well.

    Thanks for your input!

It takes about 10 hours for 2 generators to make it down to the steamplant. Sometimes if they are pulling water it can speed up the process. The full moon can really turn them on, but 30 mile per hour winds can really turn them off. I might have to bank fish tomorrow. If you go tomorrow you might see me down there.
