I AM WANTING TO SWITCH OVER TO A 24 VOLT SYSTEM ON MY BOAT.I HAVE AN OLDER MODEL TRACKER. I AM WONDERING IF THE WIRING IN THE BOAT FOR THE TROLLING MOTOR WILL HOLD UP GOING FROM A 12 VOLT SYSTEM TO A 24 VOLT SYSTEM. I AM NOT AN EXPERT ON THESE THINGS, BUT I KNOW 24 VOLTS IS NO BIG DEAL. IT IS THE AMPS THAT WILL GET YA.I GUESS I NEED TO KNOW DOES A 24 VOLT TROLLING MOTOR CARRY MORE AMPS THAN THE 12 VOLT. THANKS FOR ANY HELP.
I don't know your wire size, but as long as you don't get a larger thrust model (80lb.) you should be fine. A tracker should work well with a 50lb. thrust and if the boat came equipped with a 12V 36lb. thrust, the wire size should be sufficient. Also, remember to use a straight 24V and not a 12/24V as it would require another set of wires.
