    Construction around Patoka

Was wondering what the construction is for that is on the south side of 64 east of the Eckerty Y. Whatever it is looks like a big deal.

    RE: Construction around Patoka

Maybe B.A.S.S. is going to move their HQ office here to be closer to the action.

I wish it was a lakeside Golden Corral. I would never fish anywhere else. Remember, Monday night is shrimp night.

I been tearin them up on my high dollar crankbaits. I think the spawn will happen soon, I am on top of the big ones.

Gas prices are killin me, even though I have no boat or tow truck. The guys are not willin though to come and pick me up for my tournaments cause of the gas it costs to come and get me. I think they are mad because I was winnin so much.

Money is gettin tight, I had to combine my crankbait fund with my vitamins/vegetables fund just to get by. Since I don't throw soft plastics, the high cost of crankbaits is takin away my broccoli money.

Since gas and Lucky Crafts are so expensive, I decided to try and save money by stayin home and watchin fishin shows. So I signed up for the fishin channel on my cable tv, and they messed up and gave me the Playboy Channel instead. I watched it all weekend to make sure the fishin shows didn't come on sometime and they didn't. I guess I got to callem today get it fixed.

Anyway, I hope to be fishin in the next tournaments at Patoka.
I still have some sponsorship space available on my shirt if any of you tackle dealers are interested.

The construction is to extend hwy 145 south from the Eckerty Y to I64 at exit 79. They have been working on it on both ends for about a year. No idea when it will be completed. The motivation was probably to improve accessability to the new casino that will be in French Lick.

    RE: Construction around Patoka

Wow that's good new for me. I drive from the I64 up that road that leads to Birdeye State Highway 145 at I64 Exit #72 and that road is curvy as Heck and only one lane going North and One lane going South. So a new road from I64 straigh up to State Highway 145 will take a few minutes off my commute to patoka Lake from the Lynville Exit. Sometimes I catch the I 164 bypass around the East Side of Evansville and then head up North to I64 and the take I64 all the way to the exit that leads to Birdeye. I suspect this new Exit will be East of the Birdeye Exit on I64. I think that it's exit 72 but can't remember the exit number for sure.

I was reading about all the money that is being spent to refurbish the French Like Hotel and the West Baden Area also. Sounds like Orange County is going to be a hopping place. I hope that the social lites take their jet skies and stay away from the fishing parts of Patoka Lake.

You just have to know that there will be a lot more people visiting this area in the next few years and they all won't be fishermen.

Moose.......The new road will tie directly into 37 south towards Tell City. Heck it's already blacktopped from the interstate north for aways.

That new road will help you get to the camp faster then. It's about 8.5 miles East of the Indiana 64 and Indiana 145 intersection to English, IN where 37 is now.

I guess I could drive 9 miles past exit 72 and take the new road but it would be about a total of 18 miles farther for me. 8 miles to it and 8 mile back to the lake. Now maybe if I start putting in at the Little Patoka River boat ramp it migh be better for me.

145 is not that bad. For years I turned off I64 and went up 231 though Huntingbird and Jasper and then up though Celistine, IN. Now that took me forever to get to the lake going that way. I finally wised up after all those years of blinding going the shortest but slower route and looked at a good map. LOL.

    RE: Construction around Patoka

When you say the Eckerty Y are you talking about where you head straight south from the lake at State Highway 145 and Indiana HWY 164 and get to the stop sign where there is a bait shop and gas station across Indiana State Hwy 64? Or is Eckerty a few miles east of that Intersection. My mapsource map shows Eckerty to the East a few miles of this intersection. I have only been East of this intersection a couple of times and that was two almost two years ago. I know that English is pretty far East of this intersection on Indiana Hwy 64.

I come up from Evansville though Lynville and then exit at 72 mile marker and go up State Hwy 145 though Birdeye, IN Then east to the spot where State Hwy 145 turns north and heads up to the lake. But it sound like if that new highway is going to be entering I64 at mile marker 79 that it's still going to be 8 miles East of where I need to get off I64 to get to the lake from the West.

Although I do love super highways. How many lanes will this road be? Four lane or just two?

It appears that the new road will intersect SR64 about a mile east of the Eckerty Y store. By the looks of the dirt work in the area I would say they are going to re-shape the road in front of the store where 145 and 64 intersect. There have been a number of bad accidents in that curve over the years. I would guess the new road will only be 2 lanes. I read somewhere that it will be built to be similar to SR37 that runs south from I64 to Tell City.

    Thanks Steves:
I appreciate the information about the highway.

Now I am wondering if Indiana Hwy 145 at 64 is still open to get to the lake. ie can I go from Birdseye to that intersection and then North on 145 to 164 or up to Painter Creek or Walls.

I plan on coming up to Patoka soon.

Got to plant my garden first then I can relax and do some fishing. I fish for crappie these days. But have been know to throw a crank bait all day long in the past. Spinner baits or works or even jigs were my baits in the past.

But I want to catch some fish to put in the freezer and that's bluegills and crappie for this guy.
