Networking both Sonar/GPS units in your boat

I saw where Larry was wondering about the ability to link the GPS data in a main console unit to, ex. a bow unit, and what it would take to get this done. I'm not totally sure, but Lowrance has a new product apparently does this and more including access to all the boat functions such as engine functions etc. Go to www.lowrance.com and look at the graphics near the top of the homepage. There is one on the left that refers to Lowrance Net. Click on that for more information. Don't know what they mean by affordable but I believe this system will get the job done. Best to all.

this is good information. I may have to help Larry figure this out though. I would just recommend getting a depth finder that has gps built into it. Then linking two different mounted transducers to the same gps/depth sounder unit. Or getting two units that combine gps/depth sounders.

I think that the unit you are referring to uses the standard NEMA sentences to talk from one unit to the other.

I know that Pat Hahs of Kentucky Hydrografx uses this type NEMA stuff.

They make some data loggers that will do this also.

The system your talking about is pretty cool. It's something that has been around for a while in Saltwater boats, from what I understand. Basicly your bow and console electronics run off all the same components. I don't believe it's much more expensive than the normal stuff, but my numbers are coming from it's installation into a new boat at the factory. It would probably be pretty tough to do on an existing boat with all the wires to run.
